Gregory Santos Looks Completely Healthy

According to Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto, right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (arm) has already reported to the team's spring training facilities in Arizona, has been throwing bullpen sessions, and looks completely healthy. It's great news for Seattle's bullpen after the 25-year-old only managed eight appearances out of the bullpen for the M's in his first year with the team in 2024 due to multiple arm injuries. If he can stay healthy this year, Santos could be Seattle's primary late-inning, high-leverage setup man in front of closer Andres Munoz. The Dominican reliever had a decent 3.39 ERA (2.65 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, his first five career saves, 66 strikeouts and only 17 walks in 66 1/3 relief innings for the Chicago White Sox in 2023. Because of his health issues the last year-plus, fantasy managers will be staying away, but he could easily become a priority pickup in holds leagues in 2025.

Gregory Santos Resumes Throwing, No Timeline For A Return

Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (biceps) has resumed throwing at the team's spring training facility in Arizona. General manager Justin Hollander said the team doesn't "have any reason to believe there's a kinetic chain issue" between Santos' latest injury and the right-lat strain that he suffered in spring training that forced him to miss over three months. The Mariners don't have a timeline on if Santos will return before the end of the season. He left his most recent outing on July 31 with right-biceps inflammation. The 24-year-old Dominican flamethrower has only appeared in six games for the Mariners in his first year with the team and has allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five in 5 1/3 frames. Santos has the ability to be an intriguing late-inning arm in the bullpen, but he just hasn't been healthy this year.

Gregory Santos Dealing With Biceps Injury

Seattle Mariners right-handed reliever Gregory Santos (biceps) left his appearance early on Wednesday at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox with a biceps injury, according to manager Scott Servais. Santos will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday back in Seattle. The 24-year-old Dominican hurler made it through two-thirds of an inning and didn't allow a run on Wednesday in the series finale while striking out one batter before being pulled. The M's have a day off on Thursday before opening a series on Friday versus the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, and it remains to be seen if Santos will be available out of the bullpen by then. It's been a tough first year in Seattle for Santos, who entered Wednesday's contest with a 7.71 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with four strikeouts and one walk in just 4 2/3 innings pitched after missing most of the year due to injury.
