Corbin Carroll Grabs Pine Against Yankees

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will get his first day off of the season on Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees. With Carroll starting on the bench, outfielder prospect Jorge Barrosa will make his first big-league start, playing center field and batting seventh against Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes. Jake McCarthy is in right field. The 23-year-old Carroll, who won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2023, has gone just 3-for-17 (.176) to begin the year with three singles, two stolen bases, four runs scored and six walks in 23 plate appearances. Barrosa was recalled from Triple-A Reno when the team put Alek Thomas (hamstring) on the injured list on Monday, and he doubled in his first ever big-league plate appearance as a pinch-hitter on Monday evening.

Jake Meyers Resting On Tuesday

Houston Astros outfielder Jake Meyers is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios. Chas McCormick is moving to center field and will hit seventh, while Yordan Alvarez will be in left field and hitting second. Yanier Diaz is the designated hitter and is batting in the five-hole. Meyers, the team's regular starting center fielder, has gone 3-for-12 (.250) with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and three strikeouts through the first four games of the season in 13 plate appearances. McCormick could be a nice DFS sleeper on Tuesday, as he's hitting .625 with a 1.375 OPS in eight career at-bats against Berrios. Alvarez, on the flip side, has just one hit in 10 career at-bats against Berrios, although the one hit was a solo homer.

Josh Jung Officially Placed On Injured List

The Texas Rangers officially placed third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and recalled infield prospect Justin Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Jung was hit by a pitch on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays and is now likely to miss extended time. The 26-year-old needs to be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues until he's able to return. When he have a more concrete timetable for how long Jung is expected to be out, we'll pass it along. Foscue, the 14th overall pick in 2020 out of Mississippi State will be making his MLB debut when he gets into a game, and he should see plenty of at-bats between third and first base with both Jung and Nathaniel Lowe (oblique) sidelined. Foscue can also play second base and gives Texas plenty of defensive versatility. He's at least worth a pickup in AL-only leagues.

Eloy Jimenez Still Out Tuesday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (groin) remains out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. Gavin Sheets is serving as the designated hitter again on Tuesday and is hitting cleanup for the Pale Hose against Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez. This is Jimenez's second straight missed game after he suffered a left-adductor injury on Sunday. After an MRI exam on Monday, the 27-year-old is being labeled as day-to-day, so hopefully the oft-injured Jimenez will be able to avoid the injured list and return to the lineup later this week. Sheets went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and hit by pitch on Monday and is still searching for his first hit of the season after five plate appearances. He has never faced Lopez in his career.

Brandon Lowe Sitting Against Lefty Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against Texas Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney. It's the second time that Lowe has started on the bench for the Rays this year with the team facing a southpaw. Curtis Mead is getting the start at the keystone instead and will bat sixth for the Rays against Heaney. The oft-injured Lowe has one 3-for-14 so far in the first four games of the season with a homer, four RBI, a run scored and five strikeouts in 16 plate appearances. Mead, 23, went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk on Monday against Texas. He should get most of his playing time for the Rays against left-handed pitching in 2024.
