Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) could be sidelined for a significant amount of time with a serious right-elbow injury. Brash and the Mariners are in the process of trying to determine exactly what is wrong with his elbow, but there's the possibility that he could have to sit out the entire 2024 season. At the very least, the 25-year-old reliever is going to have to open the regular season on the injured list. This could be a big blow to the back of Seattle's bullpen, as Brash was excellent for the M's in a league-high 78 relief appearances last year, going 9-4 with a 3.06 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, his first four career saves, 29 walks and 107 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings pitched.

Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez (hand) played catch for the second straight day on Tuesday and said he's feeling "all good" while recovering from minor inflammation on the back of his left hand. "He feels much, much better," manager Scott Servais said. Rodriguez was also scheduled to hit some flips in the batting cage on Tuesday in spring training, and he could return to Cactus League action later this week. There should be nothing to worry about with J-Rod, who has been an All-Star in his first two big-league seasons. He was even better in his sophomore season in 2023 and is a top-five fantasy asset as a five-category contributor for the M's and fantasy managers. Rodriguez will be ready for Opening Day.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb made his spring debut on Saturday in an 8-4 Cactus League loss to the Chicago Cubs. Last year's NL Cy Young award runner-up threw two innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and striking out two while walking none. The former fourth-round MLB draft pick had the highest percentage of ground balls last season at 62.1% which helped him lead the league in ground ball double plays as well (30). After a leadoff single by Mike Tauchman, he was able to get Nick Madrigal to ground into a double play. Webb was also among the league leaders in K/BB in 2023, and with two Ks and zero BBs Saturday, it appears we'll see more of the same again this season from the Giants' ace. Webb is the 16th pitcher coming off draft boards (63rd overall) and should be a solid number two starter on fantasy pitching staffs with some upside (RotoBaller rank is 56th overall).

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said on Monday that starting pitcher Kevin Gausman would make his Grapefruit League debut next week. The veteran starter would like to throw a few more live batting practice sessions before officially taking the mound. The Jays' ace is coming off a season in which he finished third in AL Cy Young voting after going 12-9 with a 3.16 ERA (3.34 SIERA), 1.18 WHIP, and 23.9% K-BB%. Going as the fifth pitcher off the board in drafts, he's been a steady source of wins and strikeouts combined with a low ERA and WHIP the last few seasons, so he'll be a strong anchor for fantasy pitching staffs. The 2x All-Star's K% was 93rd percentile last season, plus he had an 87th percentile Chase%. For potential suitors looking for a reason to pass on the vet, the only cause for concern was that his numbers faded a bit in the second half of last season. His K-BB% went from 26.4% to 19.8%, HR/FB% went from 8.5% to 14.1%, and WOBA from .281 to .310.

Yainer Diaz has accepted the role of full-time catcher for the Houston Astros. The 25-year-old is reportedly going to "let things flow" this year, refusing to let the pressure overwhelm him. Houston's new manager Joe Espada showed his support for Daz, stating that he is "ready for the challenge." Daz was certainly up to the challenge in 2023, mashing 23 homes in just 104 games. Looking ahead, the Astros believe he will be a solid catcher for the foreseeable future.
