Max Scherzer Completes Another Successful Bullpen Session

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer (thumb) completed another bullpen session on Wednesday. Blue Jays manager John Schneider noted that the session went "fairly well." Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the 40-year-old's progression. However, seeing that he has completed two bullpen sessions without facing any setbacks is a positive sign. Scherzer hit the 15-day injured list following his season debut. In this outing against the Baltimore Orioles, the right-hander was removed from the contest after just three innings of work. If he is able to continue to increase his workload, he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the coming weeks. Last summer, Scherzer battled injuries as well but was effective when on the bump, holding a 3.95 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP. He remains a solid stash in deeper formats for the time being.

Jared Jones Begins Throwing Progression

Pittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Jared Jones (elbow) has begun a throwing progression. This is a great sign for the 23-year-old, as he has been shut down since March due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress as he gradually increases his workload. However, given the extent of his injury, fantasy managers should not expect Jones to return to the mound for several months, given the time he missed. Last season, the right-hander made his MLB debut and flashed solid upside as he struck out 132 batters across his first 121 1/3 innings. During this stint, he held a 4.14 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Under the hood, Jones generated an elite 30.2 percent whiff rate with a solid .234 xBA. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to stash Jones on their injured reserve as he should carry some upside when he does return to the majors.

Erik Swanson Set For Further Evaluation

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Erik Swanson (forearm) is headed back to Toronto to undergo further evaluation. The reliever was set to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday but was scratched due to a setback. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his status as the team could opt to slow down his recovery process if his forearm has not fully healed. Swanson has been sidelined with carpal tunnel syndrome in his forearm. Last season, the 31-year-old battled injuries, logging just 39 1/3 innings of work. However, during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Swanson was a reliable high-leverage option in the Toronto bullpen. During these two years, he held a 2.23 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and tallied 43 holds. When he does make his season debut, he should reclaim a high-leverage role in the bullpen.

Mike Trout Pulled As Precaution Due To Knee Soreness

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington said that outfielder Mike Trout (knee) felt soreness in his left knee when he hit first base in Wednesday's 9-3 loss to the division-rival Seattle Mariners, and the Angels removed him as a precaution. He went 1-for-2 in the game before being replaced by Jo Adell in right field. Trout said his knee is already feeling better and has undergone some tests. The 33-year-old three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star said he will try to play in Thursday's series opener against the visiting Detroit Tigers. This is not what fantasy managers that selected Trout at a discount this year want to hear with the calendar about to flip to May, but as of right now, it sounds like he's just day-to-day. Trout had yet to miss a game this year, appearing in all 29 games (22 of them in right field). Last year, he made it just 29 games before suffering a torn meniscus that eventually required surgery. Trout started strong in 2025 but is now hitting .173 with nine homers and 18 RBI.

Brice Turang Scratched On Wednesday

Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang has been scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Chicago White Sox due to undisclosed reasons. With Turang starting on the bench, Isaac Collins will lead off and play second base in place of Turang. Fantasy managers need to pull Turang from their lineups and check back for word on why he isn't playing. It's likely an injury, as the 25-year-old has been strong at the plate of late, hitting .325 (13-for-40) with five RBI, eight runs scored and three stolen bases in his last 10 games. He's been strong all season long with a .317/.368/.408 slash line as Milwaukee's primary leadoff man. Collins will face White Sox right-hander Shane Smith and will carry some DFS sleeper appeal in the leadoff spot. He has gone 9-for-37 (.243) with a homer, two RBI, two steals and six runs so far in 2025. UPDATE: Turang was scratched with an illness, so he could be back as early as Thursday's series finale against the White Sox.
