Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder), who has been dealing with general shoulder soreness early in camp, threw out to 105 feet over the weekend and "felt good" as his volume continues to ramp up. He also threw on Thursday and Friday under the training staff's supervision. "The offseason was a little tough for me," Garrett said. "Just seemed like the shoulder didn't bounce back as well as usual, but like I said, we're on the come-up now, just it's taking a little bit longer." It's a minor concern for now, but it's something we'll keep a close eye on as Opening Day gets closer. The 26-year-old southpaw is certainly an intriguing late-round flier in mixed fantasy leagues after he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 strikeouts over 159 2/3 innings (30 starts) in his first full big-league season as a starter for Miami in 2023.

Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that relief pitcher Gregory Santos (lat) is progressing and will start ramping up his throwing program in the coming days at spring training. Santos reported right-lat soreness early in camp but could still be ready for Opening Day as long as he doesn't have a setback once he resumes throwing. The 24-year-old was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in a trade this offseason and is expected to serve in some sort of setup role for the M's in 2024 in his first year in Seattle. Unless you're in a really deep holds league, Santos probably shouldn't be on your fantasy radar. In 66 1/3 relief innings for Chicago last year, Santos had a respectable 3.39 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 66 strikeouts and 17 walks.

Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby is still pushing to throw his knuckleball in games. He has been throwing it during flat-ground catch and usually throws a few during bullpen sessions. Kirby is obviously going to stick with his two fastballs, a slider and a splitter as his primary weapons in 2024, but we could begin to see a knuckleball every once in a while as well. It's something to keep an eye on, but it almost certainly won't have any bearing on his fantasy prospects as a top-10 starting pitcher this year. The 26-year-old reached a new level in 2023 with a 2.5 percent walk rate while also going 13-10 with a 3.35 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, just 19 walks and a career-high 172 strikeouts in 190 2/3 innings over 31 starts in his second year in the majors.

Detroit Tigers right-hander Brendan White (elbow) has been experiencing posterior right-elbow soreness in camp and will complete a short period of rest before re-starting his throwing program. Fellow right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (groin) reported left-groin discomfort after throwing a bullpen session last week in which imaging confirmed a left-groin strain. White's injury could hurt his chances of winning a roster spot in Detroit's bullpen to start the year. The 25-year-old had a 5.09 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 44 K's and 15 walks in 40 2/3 innings over 33 outings (two starts) in his rookie year in 2023. Gipson-Long, 26, is probably unlikely to win a starting-rotation spot out of spring training this year, especially now that he's hurt.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (elbow) is scheduled to face live pitching this week and is completing all other baseball activities at spring training. Greene is recovering from a right-elbow sprain that required Tommy John surgery last year, and he might be initially held back from participating in Grapefruit League games in camp. However, barring a setback, he should be ready for Opening Day as Detroit's starting center fielder. The good news is that the surgery was to the 23-year-old's right (non-throwing) arm. Greene struck out a lot in his second big-league season in 2023 but still managed to hit .288 (109-for-378) before his injury with 11 home runs, 37 RBI and seven steals in 99 games played. He should be considered an intriguing target as a No. 3 fantasy outfielder with upside in 2024.
