Michael Petersen Traded To Atlanta

The Atlanta Braves acquired relief pitcher Michael Petersen from the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations. He was optioned to Triple-A. This didn't come as a shock, as he had recently been designated for assignment by the Angels. He struggled in 2024 in 16 appearances, posting a 5.95 ERA and 1.63 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks over 19 innings. He was much better in the minors, delivering a 1.64 ERA. Petersen isn't a name to watch for fantasy purposes, but he could see himself in Atlanta's big league bullpen at some point this year.

Clarke Schmidt To Return April 15 Or 16

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) is scheduled to return from the injured list to make his 2025 season debut on either Tuesday, April 15, or Wednesday, April 16, against the visiting Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium, according to manager Aaron Boone. Schmidt opened the regular season on the IL due to rotator-cuff tendonitis, and he was able to throw 46 pitches during a simulated game on Monday. The 29-year-old will throw again on Saturday as he continues to build up in advance of his regular-season debut. When Schmidt rejoins the Yankees' starting rotation, it will most likely be either youngster Will Warren or veteran Carlos Carrasco who will be booted from the rotation to make room for Schmidt. Before missing three months in 2024 with a lat strain, Schmidt was on the verge of a breakout season, making him worth watching if he's on your league's waiver wire.

Shane Baz Strikes Out 10

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz was dominant on Tuesday, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out 10 in a 7-0 win over the Pirates. Baz racked up strikeouts against the team that drafted him, throwing his curveball 35 percent of the time with a 50% whiff rate on the pitch. He posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 69 strikeouts in 79 innings in 2024, but 2025 marks the first year that he will have the opportunity to pitch a full season. A huge breakout could be coming for the former top prospect, and he should be universally rostered in fantasy.

Mike Tauchman Begins Rehab Assignment

Chicago White Sox outfielder Mike Tauchman (hamstring) began his rehab assignment in Triple-A Charlotte, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He suffered a strained hamstring during spring training but is eligible to be activated off of the injured list on Friday. He slashed .248/.357/.366 with seven home runs and six stolen bases in 109 games for the Cubs in 2024. While he's not the most exciting player for fantasy, he should see a lot of playing time for the White Sox and should deliver a high OBP. He posted a 13.4% walk rate (98th percentile) last season, so he could be useful in deep AL-only formats.

Zebby Matthews Twirls Five Shutout Innings At Triple-A

Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Zebby Matthews threw five shutout innings in his 2025 Triple-A debut, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four batters on the way to earning the win for St. Paul. Matthews has shown impeccable command duringhis minor league tenure, owning a miniscule 2.7 percent walk rate over 205 1/3 IP. The righty shows strong strikeout potential as well, strikingout batters at a 28.7 percent rate, and has recorded a 3.20 ERA (2.97 FIP) with a 0.95 WHIP. Unfortunately, his nine-game major league debut in 2024 didn't go so swimmingly, registering a 6.69 ERA (5.72 FIP), 1.65 WHIP, and an 18.1 percent K-BB% over 37 2/3 IP. Expect the 6-foot-5 hurler to be back in the big leagues again this season, and despite last year's numbers, he'd be a worthy roster addition for most teams in deeper leagues that are in need of pitching help.
