Los Angeles Angels pitcher Sam Bachman will begin the 2025 season on the injured list, although the team did not specify exactly what injury the 25-year-old righty is dealing with. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft underwent shoulder surgery in October of 2023 and was limited to just 61 2/3 innings in the minor leagues last year. This year, he was expected to stretch out and compete for a spot in the rotation but was shut down in early March after experiencing discomfort. He did not make any Cactus League appearances due to inflammation, and there were never any reports that he resumed throwing. While the situation isn't clear, it seems he could be set to start the season with an extended absence. He was knocked around in Double-A and Triple-A last season, so even when he does return, he is a long shot to return to the MLB roster until he shows more in the minors.

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto underwent right shoulder surgery and will start the season on IL, and manager Ron Washington said there is "no date" for his return since he is still not ready for game action. Since Neto did not play in spring training, he will likely need a minor-league rehab stint before making his season debut. Last year, the 24-year-old hit .249 with 23 home runs and 30 stolen bases in 155 games with the Angels. He'll look to build on that momentum in his second full season in the majors once he recovers from his shoulder surgery. Until he's ready, Kevin Newman is expected to fill in the position for Los Angeles.

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Rene Pinto was designated for assignment on Wednesday, leaving Jose Herrera as the primary backup catcher for the Diamondbacks behind Gabriel Moreno. Pinto was claimed off of waivers in January from the Orioles and went 5-for-19 (.263) in his 11 games this spring. Herrera went 10-for-33 (.303) in his 12 games and has been with the team for the past three seasons. Last year, Herrera hit .227 in 42 games with a .271 wOBA and 70 wRC+. While Herrera remains off the fantasy radar for now, Pinto will get a chance to catch on with another organization after already moving from the Rays to the Orioles to the Diamondbacks this offseason.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Detroit Tigers have signed outfielder Ben Gamel to a minor-league contract. Last season, Gamel spent time with the New York Mets and Houston Astros. Across 38 contests, Gamel posted a .247/.394/.333 slash line with one home run and one stolen base. However, he generated an impressive .343 xwOBA and drew walks at an elite 18.2 percent. In 45 games at the Triple-A level, Gamel posted a .314/.423/.538 slash line with 12 doubles and seven home runs. Fantasy managers should monitor Gamel's progress at Triple-A as he could push for an early return to the majors, given the number of injuries in the Detroit outfield. If Gamel were to be promoted to the major leagues, he could have value in deeper AL-only formats.

Pitcher Touki Toussaint was a big-time prospect several years ago who never quite panned out, but he'll get a chance to prove himself and add some depth to the Angels system after agreeing to a new deal on Wednesday. Toussaint was with the Halos in 2022, going 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA in eight games, including two starts. He worked exclusively out of the bullpen last season with the White Sox, appearing in 11 games and posting a 7.43 ERA and 5.08 FIP in 23 innings. He'll start the season at Triple-A but could be called up if the Angels need additional help in the rotation or as a bulk option out of the bullpen. He isn't fantasy-relevant at this point, but it's good to know where the 28-year-old landed.
