Free-agent outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler is still seeking a three-year deal in free agency. One of the top remaining bats left on the open market, Soler's potential suitors have diminished as the Blue Jays, D-backs, and Mariners have already acquired primary DH bats this offseason in Justin Turner, Joc Pederson, and Mitch Haniger, respectively. The 31-year-old is coming off a big season with the Marlins in 2023 as he hit .250 with 36 home runs and an .853 OPS across 137 games played. The 2019 AL home run champ (48) opted out of the final year of his contract with Miami and was ultimately not tendered a qualifying offer, therefore he is not attached to draft pick compensation on the open market.

The New York Mets have signed outfielder Ben Gamel to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. The 31-year-old was a big-league regular from 2017-2022 but got into just six games at the MLB level in the 2023 season with the San Diego Padres. The lefty-swinger hit .200 (3-for-15) with no walks and a pair of strikeouts across 15 trips to the plate with the Friars last season. The bulk of his season came with Triple-A Durham within the Rays organization where he hit .276 with eight home runs, four stolen bases, and an .865 OPS across 59 games played. Gamel is a career .252 hitter with 40 HR, 21 SB, and a .716 OPS across 685 career big-league contests.

New York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez (elbow) was seen working out in the outfield on Monday at the team's minor-league complex. Dominguez had Tommy John surgery in late September and isn't expected to make his debut this year until sometime this summer, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Still, it's a good sign to see the 21-year-old in the outfield this early in the spring. The Yankees will most definitely ease Dominguez back in on defense once he eventually does make his 2024 debut, so he may not see time in center field in the Bronx until later on. In his first 33 plate appearances in the big leagues in 2023, he went 8-for-31 (.258) with four homers and seven RBI. The biggest reason for skepticism with Dominguez in single-year leagues in 2024 is that his surgery was to his throwing elbow.

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that starting the year with left-hander Garrett Crochet in the starting rotation is under consideration if that's what is best for him. "I anticipate him being on our major-league club, but I don't want to close the door on what's best for Garrett Crochet," Getz said. The 24-year-old southpaw has been preparing for a starting role this offseason, so at this point it would be a bit of a surprise if he opened the 2024 campaign in Chicago's bullpen. He'll certainly have a higher ceiling in fantasy in a starting role, but managers need to remember that all 72 of Crochet's big-league outings over three seasons to this point have come out of the bullpen. He also missed all of 2022 due to Tommy John surgery and was limited to only 25 appearances in total between the minors and majors last year.

The fifth spot in the Toronto Blue Jays' starting rotation behind Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Chris Bassitt and Yusei Kikuchi will be a competition between Alek Manoah, Bowden Francis and potentially Cuban right-hander Yariel Rodriguez, but MLB's Keegan Matheson thinks that Manoah still has the inside track on the job. The 26-year-old Manoah dealt with a shoulder injury and has a nightmarish 2023 campaign just a year after making his first All-Star team. He was demoted to the minors two different times and ultimately finished with a 5.87 ERA (6.01 FIP), a 1.74 WHIP, 59 walks and 79 strikeouts in 87 1/3 big-league innings over 19 starts. If he's fully healthy this spring and shows better results, Manoah's fantasy value should slowly start to tick back up as a potential low-cost value play.
