The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed outfielder Joc Pederson to a one-year contract with a mutual option for the 2025 season. Financial terms of the pact have not yet been disclosed. An outfielder by trade, the D-backs reportedly view Pederson as mostly a designated hitter as he has consistently graded out poorly with his glove throughout his big-league career. The 31-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Giants, hitting .235 with 15 home runs alongside an impressive 13.4% BB% across 425 plate appearances, largely in a corner outfield platoon role with some DH reps mixed in. He will almost strictly face right-handed pitching in 2024 as the lefty-swinger owns a career .248 isolated power and .834 OPS against opposite-handed pitching. His platoon splits put a hard cap on his fantasy value.

Free-agent reliever David Robertson has signed a one-year deal in the $11-12 million range with the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers. The veteran signed a one-year deal with the Mets prior to the 2023 season and wound up tossing a tidy 2.05 ERA across 40 appearances with the club. However, Robertson was part of the Mets' trade-deadline binge as he was dealt to the Miami Marlins where he regressed to a 5.06 ERA across 22 outings spanning 21 1/3 innings of work. All told, the 38-year-old owns a 2.90 career ERA across 793 big-league outings, locking down 175 saves in the process. He should compete with Jose Leclerc for save opportunities at the back end of the Rangers' bullpen while Josh Sborz will also remain in the mix.

Detroit Tigers pitching prospect Jackson Jobe has received an invitation to big-league spring training for the first time in his professional career. Drafted third overall out of high school in 2021, the 21-year-old right-hander was recently named the No. 2 ranked right-handed pitching prospect by MLB.com after a quality season between the Tigers' minor-league system and the Arizona Fall League. Jobe was out of action for three months to begin the season due to a back injury but returned to post a 2.25 ERA and a superb 25% K-BB% in six starts at Single-A. He also made eight starts at the High-A level in 2023, working to a 3.60 ERA alongside a massive 31.9% K-BB%. His minor-league season finished with one scoreless Double-A start before he worked to a tidy 2.87 ERA with 19 strikeouts against five walks across four starts and 15 2/3 innings in the Arizona Fall League, going 3-1 in the process.

The New York Yankees have signed catcher Luis Torrens to a minor-league deal. The 27-year-old was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Seattle Mariners and elected to become a free agent in November. He split the 2023 season between the Cubs and Mariners at the big-league level and hit .250 with four RBI across a small 30-plate-appearance sample size. He also appeared in a combined 24 games at the Triple-A level between the Mariners and Washington Nationals organizations. Torrens does have 271 big-league games under his belt in parts of six seasons and has hit .227 with 19 home runs and a .643 OPS across 807 plate appearances between the Padres, Cubs, and Mariners.

Free agent first baseman/pitcher Ronald Guzman has signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles. The 29-year-old declared last offseason he was attempting to transition into a two-way player but that plan was put on hold when he injured his forearm after throwing a pitch in a spring training game with the San Francisco Giants last spring. He would only make 10 plate appearances for the Giants' Complex League team in 2023, going hitless in that time. He has made two pitching outings in the Dominican Winter League this offseason but issued four walks and two hit-by-pitches in the seven batters he faced, recording just one combined out while allowing three earned runs despite not allowing a hit. It's unclear how the Orioles plan to use him this spring.
