Luis Torrens Returns From Paternity List

The New York Mets reinstated catcher Luis Torrens from the paternity list on Monday and designated catcher Joe Hudson for assignment in a corresponding move. Torrens was away from the team during last weekend's series against the Chicago Cubs while tending to a personal matter. The 28-year-old backstop is now back with the Mets and will resume his duties as the primary backup to starter Francisco Alvarez. Unless Alvarez misses more time with an injury, Torrens can be ignored in fantasy, even in two-catcher leagues. He has appeared in just nine games with the Mets in 2024 and has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with three home runs, a double, five RBI and six runs scored. Torrens has a .230/.292/.366 career slash line with 22 homers and 84 RBI in 278 games played in the big leagues since debuting in 2017.

Luis Torrens Placed On Paternity List

The New York Mets placed catcher Luis Torrens on the paternity list on Friday and recalled catcher Joe Hudson from the minors in a corresponding move. Torrens will now be away from the team for the next one to three days, so Hudson will serve as the team's backup behind Francisco Alvarez over the weekend. The 28-year-old Venezuelan took over the backup duties from Tomas Nido this year and has only played in nine games in the Big Apple this year, going 8-for-24 (.333) with three home runs and five RBI in 26 plate appearances. He'll only become relevant in two-catcher leagues if Alvarez misses more time with an injury. In his seven years in the big leagues, Torrens has slashed .230/.292/.366 with 22 homers and 84 RBI.

Luis Torrens Smashes Two Homers Wednesday

New York Mets catcher Luis Torrens smashed two home runs in Wednesday's win over the division-rival Washington Nationals, launching his first homers of the year in the victory. Torrens provided a spark on Wednesday, first putting the Mets on the board with a solo shot in the third inning and later taking Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin deep again for his second long ball of the game in the sixth frame. The 28-year-old journeyman backstop is serving as catching depth alongside veteran Tomas Nido for New York at the moment, but it's hard to envision Torrens maintaining consistent playing time once starter Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is reinstated from the injured list, which could happen as early as Tuesday.
