Coby Mayo Goes Deep For Triple-A Norfolk

Baltimore Orioles third base prospect Coby Mayo hit another home run for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. It was the 25th minor-league homer of the season for Mayo and the 22nd with Norfolk. Major League Baseball's No. 10 overall prospect had a 1-for-17 stint in the majors with Baltimore but has returned to Triple-A and has shown off his power stroke again. In the minors this season, the 22-year-old is hitting .302/.378/.610 with 25 homers and 73 RBI. With rosters set to expand in September, Mayo is likely to get another chance to prove himself with the Orioles. Like Jackson Holliday, his second go-around could be more of a success after regaining some confidence in the minors.

Chas McCormick Optioned To Triple-A

Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday after a prolonged stretch of ineffectiveness at the plate, going 4-for-42 (.095) since July 31. For the season, McCormick was slashing .192/.256/.292 with a .245 wOBA and 57 wRC+. The 29-year-old will look to get back on track at Triple-A Sugar Land while veteran journeyman Ben Gamel will take over in right field, along with utilityman Mauricio Dubon and the recently acquired Jason Heyward. Gamel has been surprisingly productive since getting regular at-bats beginning on August 22, going 10-for-23 (.435) with a pair of doubles, two RBI, and four runs scored in seven games, collecting at least one hit in all six of those games in which started. If McCormick can find his groove again, perhaps he could be a factor for the Astros in the postseason, but for fantasy, his season is over.

Corbin Carroll Homers Twice, Drives In Five Runs

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll continued his August resurgence in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Mets, blasting two home runs and collecting five RBI in the contest. The first home run was the solo variety, but the second was a go-ahead and eventual game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning off of the Mets' struggling closer, Edwin Diaz. It was the second consecutive game with a homer for Carroll, and he's now slashing .267/.333/.656 in August with nine home runs, 21 RBI, and 27 runs scored in 24 games. The 24-year-old is a big reason the Diamondbacks have been winning more games lately, with 15 of his 17 home runs coming in the last two months alone. If there is something fantasy managers can complain about it is that the reigning N.L. Rookie of the Year has stolen just three bases since the All-Star break and 21 on the season, on pace to drastically underproduce after swiping 54 bags last season. With his bat coming to life at the right time, however, managers shouldn't feel too disappointed in using such a high draft pick on him.

Seth Brown Hits Two Home Runs, Collects Four RBI

Oakland Athletics first baseman Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Reds. The 32-year-old collected four RBI in the contest as well. The home runs were the 11th and 12th of the season for the veteran and he's now up to 34 RBI. While he hasn't been a fantasy option in most redraft leagues, he can be a solid DFS play in certain spots with this being his second multi-homer game of the season, and he's hit safely in four of his last five games, going 6-for-17 (.353) over that stretch with five RBI, four runs scored, and a 4:5 BB:K.

Bryan Reynolds Homers In Three-Hit Day

Pittsburgh Pirates DH/outfielder Bryan Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a home run, a walk, two RBI, and three runs scored in Wednesday's 14-10 loss to the Cubs. It was the second time the 29-year-old has gone yard in the last three games and he's now hit safely in seven of his last eight, going 11-for-32 (.344) over that stretch. The 2x All-star is putting together another productive season, authoring a .282-21-74-62-7 line with a .350 wOBA and 123 wRC+.
