Mikey Romero Promoted To Double-A Portland

Boston Red Sox shortstop prospect Mikey Romero is being promoted to Double-A Portland, according to MiLB Central. Romero has spent the entire summer getting his first extended look at High-A ball and held a .271/.319/.498 slash line with 10 home runs, 20 doubles, and 40 RBI through 59 games. Last summer, the former 24th overall selection was hindered by several injuries, as he logged only 34 games between the lower levels of the minor leagues. Now that he is healthy, dynasty managers should pay close attention to the 20-year-old, as he should spend all of next summer in the upper levels of the minor leagues. Romero currently sits as the 16th-best prospect in the Boston system on MLB.com and could be in contention for a 2025 major-league debut if he is able to stay healthy and continue to showcase his power upside.

Tyler Soderstrom Begins Hitting Progression

Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist), whose placement on the 10-day injured list was retroactive to July 10, has advanced to a hitting progression as he recovers from a stress reaction in his left wrist. Soderstrom has been hitting off a tee and is expected to begin a soft-toss hitting program near the end of this week. He is likely to return to the A's at some point during September. Although his numbers don't look great in his second year in the big leagues, Soderstrom has taken a small step forward from his rookie year and is currently slashing .219/.307/.404 with a .711 OPS, seven home runs, 20 RBI and 12 runs scored in his 49 games played in 2024. The 22-year-old left-handed slugger should play regularly down the stretch at either first base or designated hitter to close out the year for the lowly A's.

Scott Alexander May Face Hitters This Week

Oakland Athletics left-handed reliever Scott Alexander (shoulder) threw a bullpen session last Saturday and may face live hitters this week as he progresses from left rotator-cuff tendinitis that put him on the 15-day injured list last Tuesday. There's a chance that Alexander will be ready to come off the IL when he's eligible, especially if the team doesn't think he needs to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw has been pretty solid in his first year with Oakland in 2024, going 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA (3.93 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and 10 walks in only 28 2/3 innings in his 34 appearances out of the bullpen. Alexander has been a weapon against left-handed hitters, holding them to a .146 batting average on the year in 44 plate appearances.

Robbie Ray Placed On Injured List

The San Francisco Giants placed pitcher Robbie Ray (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a left-hamstring strain. Ray is 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in seven starts with the Giants, striking out 43 and walking 15 over 30 2/3 innings. He had left his previous start against the Seattle Mariners on Monday with tightness in his hamstring. Fantasy managers will scramble to replace Ray's 12.6 K/9 while he is sidelined. The Giants called up Landen Roupp, who had a 4.70 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 15 appearances with the big club earlier in the season.

Nick Lodolo Placed On Injured List

The Cincinnati Reds placed pitcher Nick Lodolo (finger) on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 24, with a left middle-finger sprain. Lodolo is 9-6 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 115 1/3 innings, striking out 122 and walking 37 in 21 starts. Lodolo's absence will be felt by fantasy managers in most leagues, and they will scramble to find a replacement for Lodolo, who is averaging more than a strikeout per inning. The Reds called up pitcher Casey Legumina from Triple-A Louisville, where he was 6-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 35 appearances. Legumina has a 13.50 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in two previous appearances this season with the Reds.
