The Oakland Athletics optioned infielder Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas after Sunday's game, with the logical assumption being that top prospect Jacob Wilson (hamstring) is ready to rejoin the major-league club. Wilson, 22, has played the field, completed a full nine innings and looks to be ready after injuring his hamstring in his MLB just after the All-Star break. In his seven games with Vegas, Wilson went 9-for-23 (.391) with a .462 on-base percentage. When he returns to Oakland, it's likely we'll see Max Schuemann slide over to third base for regular playing time, while Wilson becomes the regular shortstop to close out the year. There could also be some mixing and matching with Abraham Toro and Tyler Nevin at the hot corner, but for the most part it will be Wilson at the 6 and Schuemann at third. Wilson, the son of former big-leaguer Jack Wilson, is worth a look in mixed leagues.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hernia), who was given Monday against the Miami Marlin off as he battles through a sports hernia, is likely to play on Tuesday at Coors Field. We now have a little more insight to why Tovar has struggled so much in the month of August. Those struggles could continue, too, as this is something that will most likely be bothering him the rest of the way. The 23-year-old Venezuelan infielder has gone just 16-for-90 (.178) with a homer, six doubles, three RBI, three walks and 32 strikeouts in 94 plate appearances over 21 games in August. Tovar is still hitting a very respectable .271 (144-for-532) on the year with 19 home runs, but his on-base percentage has now dipped below .300, and fantasy managers have to be concerned that he could continue to struggle while dealing with a sports hernia.

Kansas City Royals outfield prospect Spencer Nivens was named High-A Midwest League Player Of The Week. In his past seven games, Nivens has tallied at least one hit in each of them with a stellar .538/.625/.1.192 line and four home runs. Nivens was carrying a four-game hitting streak prior to this big week so he now sits with an overall 11-game hitting streak. Prior to this surge in the second-half of the month, Nivens was a bit cold with a .222 AVG through the first two weeks in August. Overall, through his first look at High-A ball, the 22-year-old has held a modest .232/.327/.448 line with 16 home runs but his recent surge suggests he may be turning the corner. Nivens remains a name to keep any eye on in dynasty formats as he may see most of next summer in the upper levels of the minor leagues.

New York Mets catching prospect Daiverson Gutierrez is being promoted to Single-A St. Lucie, according to MiLB Central. The 18-year-old has spent the past two seasons in the Rookie League. In 2023, the backstop held an underwhelming .186/.321/.244 slash line with just two round-trippers in 50 games. However, this summer, Gutierrez has taken a significant step forward with a stellar .309/.467/.506 line. He is currently ranked as the No.23 prospect for the Mets on MLB.com. Gutierrez remains a name to follow in dynasty leagues, especially down the stretch as he looks to carry the momentum he had into his first taste of Single-A ball.

Seattle Mariners infield prospect Tai Peete has begun to heat up at the plate after being in a slump in the start of the month. In his past 12 games, the 19-year-old has been carrying an excellent .327/.386/.581 slash line with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 10 RBI. In addition, during this span, Peete has swiped an eye-catching 10 bags with a 6:15 BB:K ratio. Prior to this stretch, the former 2023 draft pick held a .118/.210/.206 line through the first nine games of the month with just two extra-base hits. Overall, through his first extended look at Single-A ball, Peete has looked quite sharp boasting a .262/.338/.394 line with 22 doubles, six home runs, and 39 stolen bases. Dynasty managers should pay close attention to Peete as he could be in contention for a late-season promotion to High-A. He currently sits as the No. 11 prospect in a deep Seattle system on MLB.com.
