Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli says third baseman Brooks Lee's (shoulder) right shoulder is a little sore, which is part of the reason why the infielder was out of the lineup for a second day in a row for Monday's series opener against the hosting Chicago Cubs. Baldelli said Lee could have started on Monday, though. After the session, Lee was taking ground balls at shortstop in batting practice and hit on the field. Fantasy managers should look for the 23-year-old top prospect to return to Minnesota's starting nine as early as Tuesday's matchup against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Through 92 at-bats to begin his major-league career, Lee is slashing a lukewarm .250/.311/.326 with two home runs, 14 RBI, and two stolen bases.

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Trevor Megill (back) tested his back for the first time prior to Saturday's game against the hosting Washington Nationals by playing catch, and he was scheduled to be re-evaluated in the subsequent days. Megill logged 20 saves with a 2.41 ERA while filling in for injured closer Devin Williams during the first half of the year, but he ended up landing on the injured list a day after Williams rejoined Milwaukee's bullpen. Megill had been dealing with back discomfort for about five days before the club placed him on the IL, but an MRI scan returned "favorable" results, manager Pat Murphy has previously said. The hard-throwing 30-year-old right-hander remains without a clear timetable for a return to the Brewers, however, and he already lost most of his fantasy appeal upon Williams' return.

San Francisco Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada (wrist) was scheduled to begin his hitting progression before Monday's series opener against the hosting Washington Nationals. Estrada missed nine games with the same sprained left wrist earlier this year, but he struggled to overcome the injury after returning from his first stint on the 10-day injured list on July 9. He went just 3-for-34 (.088) with seven strikeouts in his last 10 contests, causing the Giants to send him back to the IL on July 26. The 28-year-old Venezuelan infielder should be back with San Francisco at some point in August. For the time being, the lefty-hitting Brett Wisely finds himself on the strong side of a platoon for at-bats with Casey Schmitt at the keystone in the Bay Area.

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Ranger Suarez (back) threw a successful bullpen session ahead of Monday's game in Los Angeles against the hosting Dodgers. Manager Rob Thomson said last week that Suarez might have a chance to rejoin the rotation in Arizona for the weekend series that begins on Friday against the Diamondbacks, but that remains unlikely. A more likely outcome for a return, however, is during the team's next homestand that begins next Tuesday against the visiting division-rival Miami Marlins. Suarez woke up on July 26 feeling lower-back soreness and tried to fight through it during his bullpen session that day before the Phillies put him on the injured list. The 28-year-old first-time All-Star owns a 2.87 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 116 strikeouts and 27 walks over 119 1/3 innings in Philadelphia this year.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said before Monday's series opener against the hosting Cleveland Guardians that starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) will officially start for the team on Tuesday. After a season full of stops and starts because of injuries, Rodriguez will make his highly-anticipated D-backs debut in Tuesday's game against the Guardians. Rodriguez first suffered a strained left lat in spring training before running into several setbacks on the road to recovery, but he's ready to roll after throwing a four-inning simulated game on Wednesday. Rodriguez accrued a strong 3.30 ERA in 152 2/3 innings with the Detroit Tigers in 2023, but he'll be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes against the first-place Guardians on the road on Tuesday.
