Adrian Del Castillo Joining Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks called up catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and placed catcher Gabriel Moreno (groin) on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move with a left-groin strain. Per MLB Pipeline, Del Castillo is Arizona's No. 28 prospect, and he will now split playing time behind the dish in the desert with Jose Herrera for however long Moreno is sidelined. The 24-year-old left-handed-hitting backstop had been tearing it up in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League at Reno this year, slashing .319/.403/.608 with a 1.010 OPS, 24 home runs and 70 RBI in 100 games for the Aces. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. Del Castillo might be worth a look in deep two-catcher and NL-only leagues if he sees enough playing time, but fantasy managers can't expect him to continue his offensive onslaught in the big leagues.

Gabriel Moreno Heading To Injured List

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (groin) is headed to the injured list on Tuesday with a groin injury and will likely start on the 10-day IL, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Moreno suffered a left-groin strain in Monday's extra-inning victory over the hosting Cleveland Guardians, and it sounds as though he's a candidate to miss well beyond the 10 days on the IL. Fantasy managers should plan accordingly. The D-backs have called up catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move, and he's expected to split the catching duties in Arizona with Jose Herrera while Moreno is out. The 24-year-old Moreno heads to the shelf slashing .262/.344/.385 with only five home runs and 41 RBI in 86 games in his second full season in the big leagues. There's a good chance we won't see him again in the big leagues until the final month of the regular season.

Darren McCaughan Called Up To Marlins

The Miami Marlins called up pitcher Darren McCaughan from Triple-A Jacksonville for Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. McCaughan was acquired from the Cleveland Guardians in May and is 5-3 with a 5.43 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 14 starts with 70 strikeouts and 24 walks in 68 innings. He has not pitched in the majors since making five appearances with the Seattle Mariners in the 2021 and 2023 seasons. The Marlins optioned pitcher Shaun Anderson to Triple-A Jacksonville after he made three appearances with a 0-2 record and 10.97 ERA and 2.34 WHIP in 10 2/3 innings. There is little fantasy impact involved with either move.

Lars Nootbaar Out Of Lineup Again

The St. Louis Cardinals are without outfielder Lars Nootbaar for Tuesday's game against the New York Mets, the third time in the last four games he has been out of the lineup. In addition to Nootbaar, infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan is out against Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs. Nootbaar is replaced in the lineup by Victor Scott II, who is batting ninth in the order and playing in center. Nootbaar is hitting .234/.324/.388 with seven homers, 23 RBI, 21 runs scored, and five stolen bases in 62 games. His absence will not be felt in standard fantasy leagues, while NL-only fantasy managers may have to consider a dip into the waiver wire if Nootbaar continues to remain out of the lineup.

Steven Kwan Out Of Lineup On Tuesday

The Cleveland Guardians will give outfielder Steven Kwan a rest on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kwan, second in the majors with a .334 batting average, is replaced in the lineup by rookie Angel Martinez, who is batting eighth in the order. Kwan is enjoying a breakout season that has seen him hit 11 homers, 32 RBI, 64 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in 13 attempts while also sporting a .392 OBP and a .487 slugging percentage. Daily fantasy managers will need to look elsewhere for production while fantasy managers in traditional formats will adjust to not having Kwan in the lineup for a night.
