Jesus Luzardo Moved To 60-Day Injured List

Miami Marlins starter Jesus Luzardo (back) was moved to the 60-day injured list on Sunday morning. The 26-year-old was originally placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday afternoon after he was scratched from his scheduled start. He is set to miss around four-to-six weeks due to a lumbar stress reaction. It is Luzardo's second stint on the IL this year and another injury for a battered Marlins rotation. It has not been a banner year for Luzardo in the first place as he owns a 5.00 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB across 12 starts. It is unclear how the Marlins plan to set their rotation as they currently have six starters on the IL. Luzardo should be able to return right around the All-Star break barring any setbacks, but he has not been the most reliable fantasy asset even when healthy.

Edward Cabrera Transferred To 60-Day Injured List

Miami Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sunday morning. Cabrera has been sidelined since May 8 with a right shoulder impingement and appeared to be nearing closer to a return. This transfer to the 60-day IL now makes him ineligible for activation for another two weeks, so there must be a reason the Marlins wanted to slow down his progression. We will see if he makes his scheduled rehab start with Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The 26-year-old produced a bloated 7.17 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB across his first four starts this season. He can provide some value for fantasy managers due to his high strikeout upside, but he needs to prove he is healthy before being added to rosters.

David Bednar Placed On Injured List Sunday

Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar (side) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday afternoon with left side tightness. He was unavailable for Saturday's game and clearly needs extra time to recover. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined for. Bednar has been more sporadic than normal in 2024 as evidenced by his 5.17 ERA, but he has still converted 16-of-19 save opportunities and produced a 9.19 K/9. Aroldis Chapman should be the main beneficiary in Bednar's absence as he collected the save on Saturday. Chapman owns a 4.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, two saves, 13 holds and 45:27 K:BB this season. He is a worthwhile pickup for fantasy managers that are desperate for saves in the short term.

J.D. Davis Acquired By Yankees

The New York Yankees acquired infielder J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics for infielder Jordan Groshans and cash considerations on Sunday afternoon. Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics earlier this week and gives the Yankees some additional depth. The veteran has been relatively mediocre this season as he is slashing .236/.304/.366 with four homers, five RBI and 12 runs scored in 39 games. Landing in New York gives Davis a little more fantasy relevance as he figures to see some playing time with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) sidelined. Nevertheless, he is nothing more than a depth option in the deepest of mixed leagues for the time being.

Josh Jung Taking Live Batting Practice Tuesday

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) will take live batting practice on Tuesday after he was shut down for the weekend due to wrist soreness. He could be activated off of the injured list as soon as Tuesday if all goes well in the session. Jung went 4-for-17 with five strikeouts during his four-game rehab stint at Triple-A Round Rock. He has been sidelined since fracturing his wrist way back on April 1, but his return seems imminent. Upon activation, Jung will serve as the team's primary third baseman and offer solid power numbers for fantasy managers. The 26-year-old slashed .266/.315/.467 with 23 home runs and 70 RBI across 122 games last season. He should be owned in all fantasy formats once he is back.
