2024 Team Stats

Free-agent left-hander Jose Quintana agreed to an one-year deal worth $4-5 million with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, sources told Francys Romero. Quintana gives the Brewers a left-handed option for their starting rotation in 2025, although it's unclear if he'll be built up enough to start the year in the Opening Day rotation. The 36-year-old veteran Colombian has 13 years of major-league experience and went 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA (4.56 FIP), 1.25 WHIP, 135 strikeouts and 63 walks in 170 1/3 innings over 31 starts in 2024 while with the New York Mets. It was his biggest workload in a season since 2019. Although it was Quintana's third straight season with an ERA below 4.00, he was helped by a .263 BABIP and 78.2 percent strand rate. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect a repeat, and Quintana's low strikeout rate gives him little upside.

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga will make his spring debut on Monday evening against the Miami Marlins. The right-hander is expected to only throw one inning. The 32-year-old was limited to just four appearances during the entire 2024 campaign due to a shoulder and a calf injury. During the postseason, Senga logged five innings and allowed seven earned runs. In the regular season he made just one start where he tallied nine strikeouts with two earned runs across five 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but seeing him make his spring debut suggests he should see his normal workload by Opening Day. During the 2023 season, Senga held a strong 2.98 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP across 166 1/3 innings. He is expected to be open the season at the top of the Mets starting rotation.

New York Mets infield prospect Luisangel Acuna (arm) exited Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his left arm. He was hit by Tampa Bay Rays left-handed pitcher Shane McClanahan in the second frame. The young infielder was able to swipe second base before being pulled from the contest. Fantasy managers should monitor his status as the team could have removed him out of precaution. Earlier in the week, infielder Nick Madrigal (shoulder) underwent surgery to repair his fractured shoulder which will keep him sidelined for the entire season. Acuna is expected to have a more significant role in camp with Madrigal's injury, but Acuna now may have to remain sidelined for a period of time. Last season, Acuna made his MLB debut and posted a strong .308/.325/.641 line across 14 games. When healthy, he will compete for starts at the keystone alongside Jeff McNeil.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, free-agent designated hitter J.D. Martinez could be a potential fit for the New York Yankees. With Giancarlo Stanton (elbow) sidelined and not participating in any baseball activities, they could sign Martinez as their temporary designated hitter. Martinez has been deployed exclusively as a DH for the past three seasons, which is not expected to change if he goes to the Bronx. Last season, the 37-year-old spent the entire campaign with the New York Mets, where he held a .235/.320/.406 slash line with 16 long balls. However, under the hood, he generated a strong .472 xSLG and a .351 xwOBA, which are both well above the average marks. During the 2023 season, he held a strong .271/.321/.572 line. If he were to sign with the Yankees, he would be the everyday designated hitter until Stanton returns. If the Yankees opt to cover that spot with players on their roster, Aaron Judge would likely be given several opportunities to serve as the DH to keep him off his feet. This would also open the door for Ben Rice to see consistent playing time as well.

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (shoulder) is expected to make the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old is recovering from a right shoulder impingement. However, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com expects the reliever to have a spot on the 40-man roster if he continues his steady progression. Last season, the right-hander posted a stellar 1.66 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP across 21 2/3 innings. He tallied 25 punchouts but showed weak command of his pitches as he served up walks at a high 15.6 percent rate. However, Reid-Foley was able to generate ground balls at an elite 62.7 percent rate which was well above the average marks. Fantasy managers should monitor his status during camp. If he can make an appearance in spring training, he should be in a good position to start the season in the major leagues. He will likely compete for a high-leverage role in the bullpen.
