Mark Vientos Still Absent Against Phillies

New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos (groin) remains out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. Vientos will be missing his second straight game after leaving Saturday's game early against the St. Louis Cardinals with a groin injury. The good news is that Vientos was able to hit and take ground balls on Monday, so perhaps he'll be able to return for Tuesday's game in New York. After breaking out in 2024, the 25-year-old is enduring an early sophomore slump in 2025, as he's hitting .167 (12-for-72) with two homers, six RBI and 14 strikeouts in his first 20 games. He'll be given plenty of rope to try and bounce back, though, when he returns from his injury. Brett Baty is getting the start at the hot corner and is batting eighth against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola on Monday. He's hitless in seven career at-bats against Nola.

Francisco Lindor Collects Three Hits, Homers

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor went 3-for-5 with a home run in the team's 7-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. He also struck out once and scored thrice. Lindor has typically been a slow starter, but he's wasted no time impacting the field in 2025. The 31-year-old has a hit in 16 of 18 games since starting the season 0-for-11 over New York's first three contests. He's got two homers in his last three appearances and is making consistent hard contact. On Sunday, the former first-round pick logged three hard-hit balls, all registering 102.9 MPH or above. Lindor's spot in the Mets' lineup may limit his RBI totals this season. However, he may make up for it in runs scored -- particularly with teammate Juan Soto heating up and Pete Alonso performing like one of the best hitters in baseball behind him.

Pete Alonso Stays Hot On Saturday

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been on a tear early in the season. He continued his reign during Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Alonso drove in a run on a double in the third inning. He also smacked a solo home run in the eighth inning to add on another insurance run. The Mets would take this game 3-0 with Alonso being responsible for two of those runs. Alonso is slashing .356/.467/.753 with six homers and 23 RBI this season. Possibly, Alonso works his name into the MVP discussions if he stays on this impressive pace of play.

Luis Severino Works Eight Innings On Saturday

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Severino was nearly able to throw a complete game during Saturday's contest against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander worked eight innings, allowing three hits, and one earned run in the win. Somehow, Severino was able to work this deep into a game while only registering one strikeout. The right-hander has looked good lately with one earned run or less in each of his last two starts. It appears Severino is back on track after a few rough starts to begin the season. He'll be a favorable streaming option for his next start against the Chicago White Sox.

Mark Vientos Removed Early On Saturday

New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos (groin) was removed early during Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Vientos was taken out in the fifth inning due to groin discomfort. He went 0-for-2 at the plate before being replaced by Brett Baty. The expectation is that Vientos will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. Fantasy managers should prepare for a possible injured list stint from Vientos. If that happens, Baty is likely to see more playing time at the hot corner.
