New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil (oblique) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Thursday. McNeil appears to be ready for the weekend series after missing the beginning of the season due to an oblique issue. The veteran infielder hit .393 during his rehab assignment, so hopefully he can keep the good times rolling on the big league roster. The assumption is that McNeil will see regular playing time against right-handed pitching. Fellow infielder Brett Baty was optioned to Triple-A to make room for McNeil on the active roster. It sounds like McNeil should play quite frequently, but fantasy managers can still take a wait-and-see approach here.

New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Well, this was expected with fellow infielder Jeff McNeil (oblique) being activated from the 10-day injured list. Someone needed to be sent down and Baty seemed like the good choice considering his struggles. So far, Baty is slashing .205/.246/.352 with one home run, four RBI, and a 19/3 K/BB ratio this season. The Mets are hopeful that Baty can still be an everyday contributor at some point. For now, Baty will head back to the minors to get everyday at-bats in Triple-A.

New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz (hip) left his appearance early during Wednesday's extra-inning win against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies due to left-hip cramping, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Diaz disengaged with the rubber for the third time and was charged with a balk in the top of the 10th inning to call out the training staff before he was eventually pulled. The 31-year-old right-hander retired the side in the top of the ninth inning in a 2-2 tie before going out for a second inning, which was the first time this year he has done that. Diaz recorded a strikeout but then gave up an RBI single before injuring his hip. Although the hard-throwing relieved didn't seem too concerned with the injury after the game, fantasy managers will want to check back on his status before Friday's series opener with the Nationals. If he ends up missing time, Ryne Stanek and A.J. Minter could share closing duties.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that if New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (oblique) gets through his final minor-league rehab game on Wednesday without issue, he'll come off the 10-day injured list for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Washington Nationals. The two-time All-Star is working his way back from an oblique injury but is on the cusp of making his 2025 debut. In seven rehab games with Single-A St. Lucie, Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse, McNeil has gone 9-for-24 with two home runs, a double, two RBI, three walks and two strikeouts. While he hasn't looked like his former batting-champion self the last two years in New York, he's still fully expected to serve as New York's primary second baseman upon his return. That means that one of Brett Baty or Luisangel Acuna could be sent back to the minors this weekend.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that if New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (hand) gets through his final minor-league rehab game with Double-A Binghamton on Wednesday without issue, he could come off the 10-day injured list to make his season debut on Friday against the division-rival Washington Nationals. In his nine rehab games down on the farm, the 23-year-old backstop has gone 7-for-35 with a home run. Alvarez is making his return from hamate surgery on his left field, and while the Met will probably ease him back in behind the dish when he returns to the active, there's no debate that he's their full-time starter when he's healthy. The Venezuelan catcher also dealt with injuries last year and played in only 100 games, but he hit 25 home runs and drove in 63 in 2023 and has high-end power at the position. Luis Torrens will return to backup duties when Alvarez makes his 2025 debut.
