Jeff McNeil Done For The Season

New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (wrist) is done for the season, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday, due to a fractured wrist. The 32-year-old exited Friday's game early after being hit by a pitch in his wrist. The second baseman will now have to wait until next spring to return to the diamond. As a result, the Mets will likely give Jose Iglesias the majority of starts at the keystone down the stretch. McNeil held a career-worst .238/.308/.384 slash line this season with 12 home runs and five swiped bags this summer. Iglesias is worth picking up in all leagues available as he currently sits with a stellar .312 AVG and should continue to see plenty of at-bats down the stretch, providing an excellent batting average with decent counting stats.

Jeff McNeil Injured On Friday

New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (wrist) left Friday's contest early against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field early due to a right-wrist contusion after he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. McNeil will undergo testing on Saturday, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect the former National League batting champion to play on Saturday. The left-handed hitter was 0-for-1 in the eventual extra-innings win over Cincy before being replaced by pinch-hitter Harrison Bader. Veteran Jose Iglesias eventually filled in at second base. The 32-year-old two-time All-Star was never a power hitter and this year has been a drain on fantasy managers' batting average as well despite hitting a league-high .326 in 2022. McNeil came into Friday hitting just .239 with 12 homers and 44 RBI in 128 games. If he's forced to miss additional time, Iglesias will probably pick up more starts at second base.

Jeff McNeil Out Against A Lefty

New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil retreats to the bench for Monday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Citi Field with a left-hander making the start. With McNeil starting on the bench, veteran Jose Iglesias will start at second base and hit sixth for the Mets against Orioles left-hander Trevor Rogers. McNeil, a former National League batting champion, is batting .248 (25-for-101) on the year against southpaws with only two of his 12 home runs. He has picked things up a bit in the month of August, hitting .261 (12-for-46) with three home runs, five doubles, four RBI, five walks and six runs scored in 15 games played. Iglesias has done nothing but hit since joining the Mets, but he's not going to provide many counting stats for fantasy managers. In 10 games in August, he's gone 12-for-34 (.353) with two doubles and only three RBI.
