Sean Manaea Strikes Out 10 In Loss

New York Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea went five-and-two-thirds innings in Saturday's 10-5 loss to the Diamondbacks, striking out a season-high 10 batters but surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks. Manaea took the loss in the game and it ended a 7-game stretch in which he had allowed three earned runs or less. On the season, the lefty is now 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 57:24 K:BB over 57 innings pitched (11 starts). He'll likely face the Phillies in his next start during next weekend's London Series.

Mark Vientos Picks Up Three Hits In Win On Friday

New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos turned in a productive game in a 9-8 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Vientos went 3-for-5 with two RBI to help the Mets knock off the D-Backs on Friday. The 24-year-old infielder has emerged as a productive bat for the Mets this season as he's hitting .327 with three homers, seven runs, and eight RBI across 49 at-bats. Vientos is worth a look in fantasy as long as he continues to show consistent production at the plate.

Pete Alonso Back For The Mets On Friday

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) had a scare with a hand injury in the series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday but is back in the starting lineup on Friday for the second game of the series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks after sitting out on Thursday. Alonso is back at first base and is hitting second on Friday versus D-backs left-hander Jordan Montgomery. X-rays and a CT scan came back negative on the 29-year-old's right hand after he was hit by a pitch by a James Paxton fastball in the first inning on Wednesday. In six career at-bats against Montgomery, Alonso is hitting just .167 with two RBI, but fantasy managers will want to get him back in there in all formats. Alonso already has 12 homers and 26 RBI with a .235 average (50-for-213) for the Mets this year.

Paul Blackburn Still In A Walking Boot

Oakland Athletics right-hander Paul Blackburn (foot) was still in a walking boot as of Tuesday. Manager Mark Kotsay said that Blackburn will probably be re-evaluated when the team returns to Oakland to open its next homestand on June 4 against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. Blackburn was placed on the injured list with a right-foot stress reaction and doesn't appear to be very close to a return. The 30-year-old's IL stint is retroactive to May 11, but as of right now, it looks like he won't return to the A's until the middle of June. At best, Blackburn will be deep-league streaming option when the matchups are right when he's healthy. Before injuring his foot, he went 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA (4.16 FIP) and 1.15 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and 13 walks in 46 innings over his eight starts.

Mets Acquire Luis Torrens From Yankees

The New York Mets acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the New York Yankees on Friday in exchange for cash considerations and designated catcher Omar Narvaez in a corresponding move, according to sources. Narvaez was hitting just .154 this year with five RBI in 28 games, while Torrens has spent the 2024 campaign so far with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting .279/.339/.469 with an .807 OPS, five home runs and 19 RBI in 30 games played. The Mets are just trying to get by right now at the catcher position with Francisco Alvarez (thumb) still on the injured list. The 28-year-old Torrens will now serve as the direct backup to Tomas Nido with Narvaez out of the picture. Torrens can be ignored in fantasy leagues with a .227 career batting average and 19 home runs in six big-league seasons with three different teams.
