New York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez continued his recent hot hitting in a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday. Martinez went 3-for-3 with two walks, two homers, two runs, and three RBI, powering his team to the win. The veteran slugger hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning and followed that up with a solo blast in the seventh. Martinez is now hitting .286 with eight homers, 17 runs, and 26 RBI across 161 at-bats for the Mets in 2024. He's been on fire of late, batting .308 with three homers and 11 RBI over his past seven games. Martinez should be locked into fantasy lineups while he's swinging a hot bat.

In his first outing since returning from the injured list, New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz earned his second victory of the year. Diaz pitched the top of the ninth inning as the Mets were down 2-1 at the time and recorded a strikeout in what was otherwise a clean frame of work. The veteran would be awarded with the victory when outfielder J.D. Martinez hit a walk-off two-run home run off Tanner Scott in the bottom of the ninth inning. Diaz missed the previous 15 games with a shoulder impingement, but looked like his old self on Thursday. Moving forward, Diaz should remain one of the best closer options in the game.

New York Mets reliever Drew Smith came in for the final two outs of Sunday's game in London against the Philadelphia Phillies and earned himself a save in a 6-5 win. Smith came in with two runners on and promptly put himself in a difficult position by allowing a hit and a walk to let a run in and load the bases. The 30-year-old then got Nick Castellanos to hit a weak tapper in front of the plate that catcher Luis Torrens was able to make a terrific play on and turn a double play, ending the game. The Mets bullpen is a mess right now, and with Edwin Diaz coming back next week it isn't worth picking up anyone in it.

New York Mets catcher Luis Torrens smashed two home runs in Wednesday's win over the division-rival Washington Nationals, launching his first homers of the year in the victory. Torrens provided a spark on Wednesday, first putting the Mets on the board with a solo shot in the third inning and later taking Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin deep again for his second long ball of the game in the sixth frame. The 28-year-old journeyman backstop is serving as catching depth alongside veteran Tomas Nido for New York at the moment, but it's hard to envision Torrens maintaining consistent playing time once starter Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is reinstated from the injured list, which could happen as early as Tuesday.

New York Mets relief pitcher Jake Diekman immediately bounced back by earning his second save of the season in Monday's 8-7 game against the Nationals. Adam Ottavino started the bottom of the ninth inning with a three-run lead, but he gave way to Diekman after giving up a run and loading the bases while getting just one out. Diekman got the second out on a sacrifice fly and ended the game with a strikeout. The Mets' bullpen has been up in the air since Edwin Diaz (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. Both Ottavino and Diekman have seen save opportunities in the last seven days, but neither has pitched well lately. Ottavino has more closing experience, but Diekman has pitched better overall with a 4.12 ERA, a 12.36 K/9 rate, and a 6.41 BB/9 rate. As such, both players are worth a look in deep roto leagues but neither instills a ton of confidence.
