2024 Team Stats

Detroit Tigers third baseman/outfielder Matt Vierling (foot) was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the hosting Los Angeles Angels with left-foot soreness. For now, fantasy managers in deeper leagues should consider Vierling day-to-day and check back to see if he's available for the series opener against the division-rival Minnesota Twins on Tuesday after a scheduled day off on Monday. With Vierling sidelined on Sunday, Justyn-Henry Malloy is starting in left field and is batting eighth against Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. The 27-year-old Vierling should see most of his time moving forward in the outfield now that Giovanny Urshela is at third base. In 263 at-bats in 2024, he's hitting .251/.287/.441 with a career-high-tying 10 home runs and 33 RBI in 74 games in his second year in Motown.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Reese Olson looked good on the mound during Saturday's outing against the Los Angeles Angels. Olson struck out nine batters while allowing two runs over six innings in what ended up being a no-decision. He gave up a pair of runs early in the third inning, but Olson settled down after that. The 24-year-old has allowed two runs or fewer in three straight starts. He'll take a 3.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 81/26 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Cincinnati Reds.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Kenta Maeda (hip) took a liner off his hip area and left Friday's start against the hosting Los Angeles Angels with one out in the sixth inning. Maeda was at 87 pitches before being removed for right-hander Will Vest, giving up two runs with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in Friday's outing against the Angels in Anaheim. It's not clear at the moment exactly what the issue is for Maeda, but his next start tentatively lines up for Thursday on the road against his former Minnesota Twins team. The 36-year-old veteran right-hander is best suited for streaming purposes in fantasy at this stage of his career, carrying a weak 5.76 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 45:19 K:BB over 59 1/3 frames for the Tigers this year. Maeda should be deemed day-to-day until he's further evaluated and more information becomes available, but he could just be dealing with a bruise.

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Alex Faedo (hip) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Thursday. The right-hander will make his return after missing the last three weeks due to right hip inflammation. Before going down, Faedo was a solid contributor in the Tigers bullpen. He holds a 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 29/13 K/BB ratio across 21 appearances. The expectation is that Faedo will return to his role as a long relief option out of the pen.

Detroit Tigers third baseman Matt Vierling went 2-for-4 with a double and his 10th home run of the season in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies. The home run was a solo shot and the 27-year-old also doubled in the contest while scoring twice. Although it was his second multi-hit game in his last four, it has been a rough month for the former third-round draft pick. After slashing .306/.337/.588 in May, the right-handed hitter is slashing .191/.226/.360 in June. Overall on the season, he owns a .254-10-32-35-0 line with a .317 wOBA and 105 wRC+. Vierling is probably only rosterable in deeper leagues, but he is eligible at both 3B and OF in Yahoo leagues, which gives managers flexibility.
