Atlanta Braves ML / Jared Shuster 5+ strikeouts
This current Washington Nationals lineup is bad. Not only are they bad, but the numbers paint a bleak picture against left-handed pitching. As a team, the wRC+ score of the current roster dating back to 2020 is under 90. They have multiple guys in that lineup with 25% strikeout rates against LHP. They may also lose one of the biggest bats in the middle of that lineup if starting catcher Keibert Ruiz sits out the quick turnaround after starting the first two games. On the mound is young lefty Jared Shuster making his debut for the Braves. He was a first-round pick in 2020. He averaged double-digit strikeouts per nine in 2021, pitching in high-A and AA. He averaged over 10 K/9 in 90 innings during 2022 at AA, although that did dip under 8 K/9 when he moved up to the AAA level for another 40-50 innings. In spring training, he averaged a strikeout per inning, so I’m confident in his ability to finish batters. He’s not likely to go deep into this game, but the matchup is so juicy. The kid does have the pedigree and path of a guy who could be an above-average starter in the major leagues.

Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates
Since being called up, Oneil Cruz has a 141 wRC+ vs. RHP. His wOBA is .372 and his ISO is at .266 in the majors. Cruz homered in the opening game of the season, and this spot sets up even better for him. Great American Ball Park is always near the top of the league for home runs.
