Welcome to our first Friday of September edition of MLB best bets. We ended August with a bang recording a weekend sweep on article writeups. This time, we will look to keep our winning ways going as we take a dive into Game 2 of a four-game set between the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers taking place in Dodger Stadium.
Atlanta Braves @ Los Angeles Dodgers
Friday’s game lived up to the hype as these two heavyweight lineups duked it out in an 8-7 win by Atlanta. We witnessed history as Ronald Acuña Jr. became the first player in MLB history to record a 30-homer/60-steal season. Acuña set the record in grand fashion with a grand slam off Dodgers starter Lance Lynn.
While Acuña made his mark early, MVP candidate counterpart Mookie Betts took over the later innings, hitting two more home runs to extend his new career high to 38 bombs this season. Besides these arguably being the best two teams in the MLB, this series will also have the NL MVP winner rise from it, as Ronald Acuña Jr., Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are the three favorites to win the award.
Friday, we will back the best two guys in this series to once again show up in this MVP face off. Mookie Betts has recorded at least 1 hit in 14 of his last 15 games. Betts gets to face Braves LHP Max Fried here. Mookie has struggled against Fried in the past in a small sample size of only 9 appearances but has crushed LHP all season with a .325 AVG and .437 ISO.
Ronald Acuña Jr. will face Dodgers left-hander Julio Urías. Much like Betts, Acuña doesn’t have the best history against Urías, but he’s been brilliant against LHP this season with a .314 AVG and .191 ISO. Friday, we’ll back the MVP candidates to record at least 1 hit a piece as well look for an encore of Friday’s performance from both of the All-Stars.
