Another season of College Football is upon us, and in addition to covering DFS as well as PrizePicks, I will be releasing a couple of weekly betting articles.
The purpose of this writeup is to highlight some of my favorite college football games to bet on, give you my reasoning for picking said game and to direct you to the site with the softest line. Let’s take a look below at my favorite spots to attack for Week 5!
San Diego State Aztecs vs. Boise State Broncos
8:00 PM ET, Friday
Boise State -6, O/U 39, DraftKings Sportsbook
After a totally horrific performance by Boise State last week against UTEP, the powers that be decided to fire the offensive coordinator, which in turn caused long-time quarterback Hank Bachmeier to head for the hills aka the transfer portal. This means the offense is being handed over to exciting freshman Taylen Green. He played heavily in a Week 1 loss to Oregon State in which he rushed for 102 yards and two TDs while also completing 68% of his 28 passes. The offense was much more dynamic with Green at the helm, but his lack of experience is obviously going to be a problem initially against some of the more rugged teams like the Aztecs. This will likely be a defensive struggle throughout, and this type of environment truly favors SDSU.
The Aztecs are riding high after a dramatic last-minute win over Toledo in which RB Jordan Byrd plunged into the end zone from one yard out with just 41 seconds remaining. SDSU prefers to lean on a ball-control style offense which means lots of running plays, and they’ll want to keep Taylen Green off the field as much as possible. Points will be at a premium in this matchup and I’ll gladly take the visitor plus the six.
Betting Trends
- SDSU is 12-7 against the spread as underdogs under Brady Hoke.
- Boise State is 0-3-1 against the spread this season.

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Clemson Tigers
7:30 PM ET, Saturday
Clemson -6.5, O/U 40, DraftKings Sportsbook
Clemson was just involved in an overtime thriller with Wake Forest in which both offenses went completely bonkers. Sam Hartman threw for six TDs while DJ Uiagalelei threw for five. The Tigers offense has been impressive with DJ throwing for over 1,000 yards and 10 TDs to just one INT through four games, which is a massive improvement from last year’s debacle. He has also rushed for 169 yards and a score, so he is getting it done in a myriad of ways. Running back Will Shipley has piled up 353 yards and seven TDs on the ground, while receivers Beaux Collins (13-218-4), Antonio Williams (12-184-1) and Joseph Ngata (11-189-0) have all been productive.
The Wolfpack are led by quarterback Devin Leary, a strong passer himself who has almost 900 passing yards through four games and nine TDs to just two INTs. He has also scored two rushing touchdowns, so he isn’t afraid to mix it up at the goal line when needed. Demie Sumo has been a revelation at the RB position for the Wolfpack, as he has rushed for a healthy 6.5 YPC while pushing past 250 yards and three scores. Thayer Thomas (15-217-2) has been Leary’s go-to guy for years, and those two have a special connection that could give Clemson fits this weekend.
Why am I writing this like it’s a DFS breakdown? Well, that’s really simple. Forty points is a clear mistake, as both of these offenses can go. I’m going to be slamming the over this weekend because of it. In addition, there is real value on the Wolfpack spread for those looking at the SGP route.
Betting Trends
- The over is 5-2 in the Wolfpack’s last seven games.
- The Wolfpack are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games against Clemson.
