Sports betting in Ohio is on the horizon, and what better way to kick off sports betting in the state than to place a wager on the Ohio State Buckeyes?

The men’s basketball team is off to a solid start in 2022-23, so let’s take a look at several ways to place bets on Ohio State throughout the regular season into March Madness.

How to Bet on Ohio State College Basketball Futures

Ohio State has been a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament as of late, qualifying for each of the last four tournaments and winning at least one game in three of them. Beginning January 1, 2023, Buckeyes fans will be able to legally bet on their squad with a number of different sportsbooks, including DraftKingsFanDuelBetMGM and many more.

Ohio State Big Ten Championship Odds

As usual, the Big Ten is one of college basketball’s toughest conferences top-to-bottom. Ohio State is thought of as a team that fits somewhere in the middle of the pack in the eyes of most analysts and computer metrics, but the Buckeyes have shown they can compete with just about anyone. Ohio State’s Big Ten title odds have danced between +1000 and +2000 for much of the season and typically sit around +1500, meaning oddsmakers consider them quite a long shot to win the conference.

Ohio State National Championship Odds

Ohio State’s national championship odds are consensus +10000, or 100-1. The Buckeyes haven’t made a Sweet 16 appearance since 2013, so it’s not surprising to see that oddsmakers have little faith that they’ll make noise come March. Chris Holtmann does have a nice collection of talent, however, so it’s still possible that he pulls the right levers and has this team clicking heading into March Madness.

Ohio State Player Awards

The only individual award market that sportsbooks offer for college basketball is the Wooden Award – Player of the Year – but the Buckeyes don’t have any players currently in the running. Their two best players – Zed Key and Brice Sensabaugh – are likely to receive some all-conference honors at the end of the season. Key might struggle to crack the Big Ten First Team or Second Team because of the league’s surplus of good big men, but Sensabaugh is one of the leading candidates for Freshman of the Year.

Ohio State Betting History

Over the last decade, Ohio State has struggled mightily to bring home any hardware. The Buckeyes’ last Big Ten regular season championship came in 2012, and their last conference tournament championship came in 2013. We’d have to rewind a bit further, back to 2007 with Greg Oden and Mike Conley, to find Ohio State’s last national championship game appearance. Unfortunately for Buckeyes fans, they lost that game, meaning they haven’t won a national championship since 1960.
