Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitcher Bryan Baker could be a "surprise" player to make the Opening Day roster, according to Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. The 30-year-old would have to go through waivers to be sent to the minor leagues, which may encourage Baltimore to keep him on the major league roster. Last season, the 30-year-old held a 5.01 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP. He tallied 23 punchouts across 23 1/3 innings. Baker showed strong command of his pitches as he served up walks at a 7.5 percent rate. He also generated a strong 3.59 xERA with a .229 xBA which suggests he could see some positive regression when he returns to the bump in 2025. In 2023, Baker held a 3.60 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP across 45 innings of relief. If he does make the Opening Day roster, he will likely be deployed as a middle relief option.
