Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Carlos Estevez tallied his 15th save of the 2024 season on Tuesday night. He entered with a two-run lead and tossed one shutout frame with two strikeouts. He allowed a lone single to Oakland backstop Tyler Soderstrom. Estevez has now tossed nine consecutive shutout frames with a stellar 0.11 WHIP. He has not allowed a walk during this stretch as well. Overall on the season, the 31-year-old holds a 3.24 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, and a 3:27 BB:K ratio. Estevez has done very well in limiting his own damage with a near-perfect 3.2% walk rate, which is one of the best in baseball. The right-hander should remain the top option for saves in the Los Angeles bullpen and should provide steady ratios throughout the summer.
Los Angeles Angels closer Carlos Estevez struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Giants to secure his 12th save of the season. It was the sixth consecutive appearance where Estevez did not allow a run, a hit, or a walk. The outing brings his season ERA to 3.68 with a 0.91 WHIP and 22.6% K-BB%. He's seemingly firmed up his grip on the role after looking shaky during a seven-game stretch from mid-April to mid-May that saw him blow three saves.
Los Angeles Angels right-hander Carlos Estevez threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. Estevez needed just 10 pitches to send the Padres down in order on the way to earning his ninth save of the season. The 31-year-old has had an up-and-down season as the Angels' closer as he has a 4.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts over 18 innings of work with three blown saves. While his ERA is an eyesore, Estevez is a source for saves and strikeouts and, as such, is worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues moving forward.
