Cheat Sheet FAQs

Which cheat sheet should I use?

That’s really up to you. Some people prefer a straightforward traditional positional or overall cheat sheet. Others prefer our legacy draft board format. Some like to use our tiers sheet. And still others want to use Jeff Ratcliffe’s Ultimate Draft Board, which is the exact same sheet Jeff uses in his own drafts. All sheets are custom-produced by hand and are based on Jeff’s rankings and/or tiers.

How often are these updated?

Starting after the 4th of July holiday, we update every Monday straight through Labor Day. We will also update if anything major happens during during the week. Finally, we update Saturday mornings for the final three weekends before the NFL season starts, since these are the three biggest fantasy draft weekends on the year. Each sheet shows it’s updated date at the top. We chose this schedule intentionally, and you can be assured that you will always be drafting with the most up-to-date information possible.

The updated date is not today’s date. Does that mean the sheet is not updated?

Absolutely not. Our schedule is set up so that you will have the most up-to-date information. Your cheat sheet will never be stale, even if the update date was a day or two ago. And remember, if anything big happens, we’ll update all the sheets.

What’s the difference between Ratcliffe’s Ultimate Draft Board and the Legacy Draft Boards?

The two boards are built for very different draft styles. The Legacy board works best with a traditional value-based approach. If you’re a value-based drafter, this is the board for you. Ratcliffe’s Ultimate Draft Board is set up for a more nuanced drafter who deploys multiple strategies during their drafts. Jeff specifically designed this board for his own drafts, as it incorporates the multiple strategies he uses in his redraft fantasy football drafts. If you’re someone who uses a similar approach, you may want to opt for Ratcliffe’s Ultimate Draft Board.

Does Jeff really only uses the same cheat sheet regardless of whether it’s PPR, .5 PPR, or non-PPR?

Yes.

Come on. Does he really?

Yes, Jeff’s approach to drafting in redraft leagues is based heavily on his strategies, which you can read about in his Game Plan Draft Guide that releases every summer. Jeff isn’t concerned with the precise ordering of players like you see on traditional cheat sheets. Instead, he wants to draft specific types of players at specific times during a draft. Additionally, the difference between where a player ranks in those three scoring formats is marginal, at best. It’s an insignificant detail that has zero impact on how Jeff drafts.

Why is there a difference between the legacy draft boards and Ratcliffe’s Ultimate Draft Board?

Because they’re different cheat sheets that are not designed to be one-to-one carbon copies. As noted above, they’re made for two very different styles of drafting. Jeff recommends that you pick a cheat sheet and go with it. And comparing across multiple sheets could end up confusing you, which is exactly what we don’t want to happen. It’s best to pick one sheet and roll with it.

I’m not in a 12-team league, can I get a draft board cheat sheet made for my league size?

There’s no need because our draft boards can be used for any league size. Whether you’re in an 8-team, 10-team, 12-team, 14-team, 16-team or even larger, our legacy boards and the Ultimate Draft Board will work for you.

But why do both types of draft boards have 12 players in each round?

That’s a default number, but the round grades are not suggestions for where the players should be drafted. Rather, it’s a way of spatially orienting the players on one sheet of paper to visually show their value relative to each other. We use the word “round” because it’s a familiar one to fantasy drafters, but we could have called those groupings anything. Tiers, levels, Bob. Don’t read into the name, and don’t read into 12 players being listed for each round. Rather, use both of our draft boards as a way the gauge value and apply strategy on draft day regardless of your league size.

Jeff’s Ultimate Draft Board has some players labeled as “do not draft” in the late rounds. Is there a point where they become a value for him to draft?

No. Jeff labeled those players as do not draft because they are players he will not be drafting this year. He’s very strict about following his board and makes no exceptions. Of course, that’s his approach and you can certainly disagree with his method or the players he isn’t drafting. If that applies to you, we recommend using our legacy draft board cheat sheets or one of our other traditional cheat sheets.

The font size is too small. Can you make it larger?

Unfortunately, at this point, no. These cheat sheets are custom-produced and cannot be altered. But that could certainly change in the future.

Can you give me a Microsoft Excel version of the cheat sheet?

For the same reason as above, no. We produce these custom sheets by hand in order to give you the highest quality product possible, and that means we can only provide them in PDF form.
