2025 NFL Offseason: How to Approach the Free Agents in Dynasty

Share

The NFL offseason is already moving quickly. The Combine is here, and very soon NFL free agency will be here as well. Dynasty managers need to keep up with some of the names hitting the open market, as they directly affect players around them and open up landing spots for rookies.

Last year we saw Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and Sam Darnold hit the market and flourish in their new landing spots. Being ahead of the free agent market is key and can create a significant advantage for you as a manager. With that in mind let’s, take a look at this year’s class.

Free Agents in Dynasty Fantasy Football

Quarterback

The quarterback free agent group is lackluster this year, “headlined” by Sam Darnold and Justin Fields. After this, it is a mix of journeymen players like Jameis Winston, Taylor Heinicke and Jacoby Brissett, paired with high-talent busts in Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Daniel Jones. With an equally lackluster rookie class, we likely see a few of these guys find a starting role, at least for part of the season. So let’s peek at a few names with a real chance to be fantasy-relevant in 2025.

Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings

After a career revival in Minnesota, Sam Darnold is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks in this group. He is fresh off a Pro Bowl season where he passed for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns, both career highs. We did see Darnold tail off at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs, which may raise some concerns in future teams. It’s also true that 2024 is the only time Darnold has (a) played every game or (b) was the primary quarterback on a team with a winning record. In other words, teams may proceed with caution here … as should you. Darnold feels like a product of the Minnesota system, so if he is placed in the wrong situation again we may see him regress to his previous norm. The ideal spot for Darnold would be with the Rams, a system where Baker Mayfield, Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford have all had significant success. It also mirrors the Minnesota system in many ways.
