The Philadelphia Eagles are signing running back Saquon Barkley to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This deal makes Barkley the first-ever $20 million per year ball-carrier and locks him in through the 2027 campaign. The former New York Giants' No. 2 overall pick dominated in his first season with Philly, racking up 2,005 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns in 16 games. His new deal includes $36 million in total guarantees, and he can earn up to an additional $15 million in incentives and escalators. The 28-year-old's new deal could signal a market increase for running backs moving forward after the position became devalued over the last half-decade.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley rushed for 57 yards on 25 carries during Sunday's Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He also caught six of his seven targets for an additional 40 yards through the air. Barkley had a rare quiet game on the ground, averaging just 2.3 yards per carry despite handling heavy volume. He did boost his per-touch average with some solid receiving work, including an impressive catch down the right sideline. All in all, even though this certainly wasn't Barkley's best game, it may have been one of his most memorable. The Eagles toppled the Chiefs on the national stage, securing a Super Bowl title and ending Kansas City's run at a three-peat. The victory was a rewarding end to a phenomenal season for Barkley, who bet on himself by leaving the Giants to sign with Philadelphia, where he ultimately won Offensive Player of the Year. As long as Barkley stays healthy throughout the offseason, he should be the consensus 1.01 in 2025 fantasy football drafts.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley enters the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs amid a historic postseason run. He has racked up 344 yards on outside runs in the playoffs, averaging an incredible 9.3 yards per carry. However, he now faces a Chiefs defense that has not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season, and in 18 consecutive playoff games. Barkley's usage remains elite, as the Eagles run the ball more than any other team in early downs and inside the red zone. While Kansas City will key in on stopping him, Philadelphia's dominant offensive line should create opportunities. The Chiefs may force Jalen Hurts to beat them, but Barkley's explosiveness and ability to break tackles make him a serious threat if given enough volume.
