Now updated with Monday Night Football.
It was a good Week 6 for Jared Goff and Brock Purdy It was a good week for Chris Godwin, Derrick Henry, and Sean Tucker It was not a good week for Calvin Ridley
Ridley was listed with eight targets in yesterday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts and caught none of them. Based on my data, that makes Ridley the 19th receiver since 1979 to have at least eight targets and go 0-for on catches.
Ridley has only been targeted 27 times this season and has just nine receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown. He is 62nd among qualifying wide receivers in DYAR. This is not what the Titans expected when they signed Ridley to a four-year, $92-million contract in the offseason. He’s not getting open, and when he gets open he’s not getting the ball, in part because Will Levis has been really bad.
In Ridley’s defense — and not Levis’ defense, clearly — a number of these targets aren’t anywhere near him, although he definitely could have caught a couple of them. His first two targets earned PDs for defensive linemen who tipped the passes, but later on he was close enough to defenders to have three more PDs scored against him not counting Julian Blackmon‘s interception. Then there’s one “target” where Ridley isn’t even on screen…
After the game, Ridley was frustrated and shared his thoughts with the local media. Ridley was targeted only twice in the first half. Five of his targets came in the fourth quarter.
Here’s a look at all the receivers in my data (since 1979) who have gone 0-for-8 or worse, ranked by DYAR. There are some excellent receivers who had very bad days similar to Ridley yesterday. Gary Clark went 0-for-12 in the 1986 NFC Championship Game against the Giants!
