Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan said that running back Tyjae Spears (concussion) will be working through the league's concussion protocol on Wednesday in the first practice of the week. Spears suffered a concussion in the Week 11 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and will now have to clear the league's concussion protocols in order to play in Week 12 against the division-rival Houston Texans this Sunday. It's good news that the 23-year-old will get in some work on Wednesday, but he's likely to be limited and will need to do more later in the week to get the green light. Spears has only 10 carries for 47 yards and five receptions for 12 yards over the last two weeks as the change-of-pace option to Tony Pollard in a low-volume Titans offense, making him a weak RB3/flex in fantasy leagues. If he is unable to play against Houston, Julius Chestnut would work as Pollard's backup.UPDATE: Spears wasn't spotted at practice in the portion open to the media on Wednesday.
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (concussion) is officially in the league's concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in the Week 11 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Spears was forced to leave the game late in the fourth quarter. He finished with a disappointing three carries for no gain while catching two of his three targets for just eight yards in the 23-13 defeat. The 23-year-old will now have to pass through the NFL's concussion protocol this week in order to gain clearance to play in Week 12 versus the division-rival Houston Texans on Sunday. Already a low-upside, low-floor RB3/flex in deeper fantasy leagues, Spears is shaping up as a depth RB to avoid going into Week 12. If he is unable to clear the concussion protocol, it would give Tony Pollard RB2 upside, while Julius Chestnut's role would expand behind Pollard.
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears (head) was taken to the locker room for concussion evaluation during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 11 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. At the moment, the Titans have not disclosed whether Spears was officially diagnosed with a concussion. Operating as the backup to Tony Pollard on Sunday, Spears registered three carries for zero yards on the ground. He also caught two of his three targets for an additional gain of eight yards through the air. Fantasy managers should monitor Spears' status going forward, but Pollard continues to be the only Tennessee running back worth starting in fantasy football.
