The Jacksonville Jaguars signed quarterback John Wolford and wide receiver Louis Rees-Zammit to their active roster on Monday, the team announced. Wolford was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams last year but didn't play in any regular-season games before joining Jacksonville's practice squad in December. The 29-year-old has played in seven NFL games (four starts), dating back to 2020, with all of his action coming with the Rams. He's gone 61-for-104 for 626 yards with a touchdown and five interceptions. Wolford will merely give the Jags extra QB depth heading into the 2025 season. Rees-Zammit is a rugby player from Wales that was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs last summer, but he was cut following the preseason before latching onto the Jaguars' practice squad. The 24-year-old had six carries for 24 yards in the preseason with the Chiefs.

The 29-year-old is being picked up following the head injury suffered by franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the Week 13 loss to the Houston Texans. Wolford has played in seven NFL games (all for the Rams), completing 58.7% of his passes for 626 yards, one touchdown, and five interceptions. Mac Jones will likely start as long as Lawrence is out of action, and veteran C.J. Beathard is in the No. 2 QB role. It would be a surprise if Wolford sees any game action this season, but you never know. For now, this move can be ignored for fantasy football.

The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran quarterback John Wolford to their practice squad. He had been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during last week's series of roster cuts. Wolford reunites with Dave Canales, who was his offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay last year and is now the head coach of the Panthers. "John's fantastic. Hands down, the smartest guy in the room," Canales previously said about Wolford. He added, "It's a great feeling for a quarterback coach or an offensive coordinator when you know before the play starts where the ball should go, and it goes there. That's John Wolford. He's just like, 'Alright, so this ball should go to the backline right here, and there it is, bang.' Perfect." Evidently, the Panthers' new head coach has plenty of faith in Wolford and presumably jumped at the opportunity to bring him onto the practice squad when Tampa Bay cut him loose. He'll presumably open 2024 as Carolina's emergency No. 3 quarterback behind Bryce Young and Andy Dalton.
