We’ve crossed the halfway point of the fantasy football regular season. Trades made now can and will impact your playoff aspirations, and this week’s “Dynasty Moves to Make” has a few bold calls that could be the difference in claiming a championship.
As a reminder, buying doesn’t mean getting a player for a signed copy of “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah” and Ronnie Rivers. Selling doesn’t mean you must rid your rosters of said player for 10 cents on the dollar. When players are improperly valued, take advantage.
Dynasty Moves to Make: Sells
Geno Smith, QB, Seattle Seahawks
I dubbed Geno Smith a sell in redraft in my 10 Things to Know this week, and the same goes for dynasty. I won’t rehash all the same points, but I’ll give you the fun-size version. Smith has put up solid numbers, but his subpar play has been masked by volume, with Seattle leading the league in pass attempts. Smith has just one game with multiple passing touchdowns and three over 300 yards (averaging over 50 pass attempts to get there). With a grueling rest-of-season schedule according to FTN’s DVOA-Adjusted Points Against, Smith has an uphill battle to maintain his current middling numbers, let alone improve on them. Move him before his trade value craters.
Players I’d be willing to trade Smith for 1 for 1: Kirk Cousins, Michael Penix Jr., Derek Carr
Puka Nacua, WR, Los Angeles Rams
I decided to include Puka Nacua as a sell early Thursday afternoon, and by the time I got back from taking my kids trick-or-treating Thursday night, news had broken that Nacua left practice with a knee injury. Thankfully, the injury isn’t severe (I’d have had to find someone else to write about), but it adds a little urgency to moving him. The vibes are high after Nacua’s surprise activation from the IR in Week 8. He led the Rams in targets (9) and scored 18.1 fantasy points in a victory over the Vikings. But the Rams were rumored to be ready to clean house had they lost, including the likes of Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp. Stafford is 36, and Kupp’s contract has an out after the season; what do the Rams look like after this season? I wouldn’t sell Nacua at a discount, but I feel his trade value has peaked. If you can get a borderline WR1/high-end WR2 for him, do it.
Players I’d be willing to trade Nacua for 1 for 1: Nico Collins, Brian Thomas Jr., Malik Nabers
