Giants land Kadarius Toney, Fantasy Impact

Share

After trading out of the No. 11 pick, allowing the Chicago Bears to select Justin Fields, the New York Giants landed a wide receiver at Pick No. 20 of the 2021 NFL Draft, selecting Florida WR Kadarius Toney.

(Check out the FTN Kadarius Toney scouting report here.)

Toney made the second-team All-SEC team in 2020, played 11 games last year, going for 984 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. That was a big jump from his Florida career prior to that, as he had 606 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first three college seasons combined.

The Giants are suddenly fairly laden down with wide receivers, with Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton still on the team from last year and Toney joining free agent signee Kenny Golladay as new additions for 2021. Those four, along with RB Saquon Barkley and TE Evan Engram (and free agent acquisition Kyle Rudolph), give Giants QB Daniel Jones a deep stable of weapons. Toney isn’t likely to be a big fantasy factor as a rookie, if only because there aren’t going to be enough bites at the apple. He’s a super-deep flex at best to start. But as Shepard and/or Slayton move on, Toney’s long-term ceiling is higher, especially if Jones can develop into a sure starter … no sure thing, to be clear. — Daniel Kelley
