With Tee Higgins appearing set to stay in Cincinnati, the WR prize of this year’s free agent market became Chris Godwin, and that prize was claimed quickly Monday when the Buccaneers gave Godwin a reported three-year, $66 million deal to stick with the only team he’s ever played for.
Godwin was shot out of a cannon last season in Liam Coen’s offense. Over the first seven weeks of the season, he had a league-high 50 catches and was second to only Ja’Marr Chase in fantasy scoring. By comparison, his teammate Mike Evans had 26 catches and was WR15 over that span. Of course, Godwin is a year older and is coming off an injury-shortened season. Still, at 29 years old, Godwin is still capable of being a high-volume WR2. Keep in mind that he hasn’t been much of a touchdown producer, with just 15 scores over his last four seasons. That caps his upside, but a healthy Godwin will offer a high weekly floor.

As for Evans, we’re essentially in rinse and repeat mode. Like Godwin, he’s no spring chicken, but Godwin’s return to the roster really doesn’t change Evans’ outlook. He’s the polar opposite of Godwin in terms of fantasy production, as Evans offers a high weekly ceiling, but also comes with a low floor.
The last part of this worth unpacking is Baker Mayfield. The veteran has revitalized his career in Tampa and is coming off a massive 41-touchown season. To be fair, he put up those numbers despite only having Godwin for seven games. However, having him back is a very good thing for Mayfield. We aren’t sure how different the offense will look with Coen out and Josh Grizzard in. However, Mayfield remains squarely in the midrange QB1 conversation.
