The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed the franchise tag on Chris Godwin Tuesday, but that didn’t keep them from retaining another of their free agents, as the team agreed to a two-year contract extension with star LB Lavonte David, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The #Bucs are keeping one of their own: Tampa Bay has agreed to terms with star LB Lavonte David on a 2-year contract extension worth $25M, sources say. On the brink of free agency, David stays home.

David, who turned 31 in January, has played his entire nine-year career with the Buccaneers after landing with Tampa in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s made a Pro Bowl (2015) and was a first-team All Pro (2013) and a two-time second-teamer (2016 and 2020). The defending Super Bowl champions will keep him around, leaving Shaquil Barrett as the team’s top remaining free agent.
