BREAKING NEWS: Bears franchise tag Allen Robinson

Share

The Chicago Bears will keep their stud wide receiver around for 2021, informing WR Allen Robinson he’ll get the franchise tag, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bears placed franchise tag on WR Allen Robinson, per source.

Robinson signed with the Bears in 2018 after playing his first four years in Jacksonville. He topped 1,000 yards in each of his last two years in Chicago after also doing so in 2015 in Jacksonville (when he made the Pro Bowl). A 2014 second-round pick, Robinson turns 28 in August.

Fantasy slant: The status quo remains in place for Robinson, who will be forced to suffer through at least one more year of below-average QB play. The good news is that Robinson has been a valuable fantasy asset in Chicago despite the QB struggles, producing back-to-back top-10 fantasy finishes with nearly identical stat lines in 2019 and 2020: About 150 targets, 100 receptions, and 6-7 TDs. We can expect more of the same in 2021, pegging Robinson as a mid-range fantasy WR1 with some monster weeks in his back pocket. While it looks like Robinson's fantasy fortunes remain muted in Chicago, this story isn't over just yet. There is still the chance the Bears go the tag-and-trade route with the veteran receiver. If the Bears and Robinson don't reach a long-term deal by July 15, Robinson could sign his tag and open the door for the Bears to trade him. That's far from a lock to happen, but is certainly still a potential outcome.
