Bears trade up for Justin Fields, Fantasy Impact

Share

The Chicago Bears landed their quarterback, trading up with the New York Giants for the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft to select QB Justin Fields.

(Check out the FTN Justin Fields scouting report here.)

Fields played with Georgia in 2018 then landed with the Buckeyes for 2019 and 2020. He was a Heisman finalist in 2019 and had 63 touchdowns against only 9 interceptions across 22 games with the Buckeyes, going 20-2 and making it to the championship game of the College Football Playoff in the most recent season.

Here we go. The Bears traded a ton to go up and get Fields, who will compete with Andy Dalton to start at quarterback. Chicago isn’t as exciting of a landing spot as San Francisco or Denver, but Fields has a chance to start and throw passes to All-Pro Allen Robinson, which is exciting. Fields is an insanely accurate passer with elite mobility, rushing for 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns in three collegiate seasons. That alone will make him fantasy relevant and Chicago investing so much into Fields makes it very likely he enters the season as the starter. The quarterback position is always deep in fantasy but Fields offers late-round potential in fantasy drafts and could be in consideration for the 1.02 selection in superflex dynasty drafts. Meanwhile, Allen Robinson is smiling somewhere. Fields, a top-five prospect in this draft, is set to explode onto the scene. — Adam Pfeifer
