Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants
Dodgers -180, Giants +155, O/U 7.5 (DraftKings Sportsbook)
SP: Andrew Heaney (L) vs. Alex Cobb (R)
On this week’s edition of Sunday Night Baseball, we have an NL West showdown between two teams headed in opposite directions. The Dodgers are the only National League team to have officially locked up a spot in the playoffs this year, and they are also the only team in baseball to have 100 wins. The Giants are 10.5 games back in the NL Wild Card hunt, and barring a miracle, they will not be playing meaningful baseball in October.
The Dodgers took the first game of this series 5-0 and won last night 7-2. This is the final time these two NL West foes will play this season. Unfortunately for the Giants, they have not put up much of a fight, and the Dodgers lead the season series 14-4. Also, the Giants have only covered their run line in those four wins.
Lefty Andrew Heaney will toe the slab for the Dodgers tonight. In 12 starts, Heaney is 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA, 4.11 FIP and 1.07 WHIP. This will be Heaney’s third time facing the Giants this season. His first start, which was in San Francisco, was a great start. However, he faced them again on September 5 and allowed six runs on six hits in a Dodgers loss.
The Giants are one of the better teams facing left-handed pitching. Against lefties, the Giants have a .724 OPS and 376 hits, which is fifth in baseball. They also have 65 home runs, which ranks second.
Alex Cobb will take the mound for the Giants. In 24 starts, Cobb is 6-6 with a 3.48 ERA, 2.88 FIP and 1.27 WHIP. This will be Cobb’s fourth time facing the Dodgers. In his last start in LA, Cobb allowed three runs on seven hits in just 4.1 innings of work.
Cobb has been great when pitching at home this season. In 77 innings of work, Cobb has a 2.34 ERA, .218 batting average against, 1.09 WHIP and 2.51 FIP. The Giants are 3-1 in Cobb’s last four road starts.
The Dodgers have no motivation in tonight’s game. They will be the No. 1 seed in the National League and have clinched a playoff berth. The Giants still have some fight in them and have their best chance on the mound going for them tonight. San Francisco may not win, but back them on the run line.
