When it comes to making money in the DFS industry, there’s no such thing as too many outlets. So, when a new opportunity arises, we want to take advantage of it. That’s exactly what we’ve been presented with lately with the newest partner of FTN, StatHero.

StatHero is a healthy mix of DFS and the idea of a sportsbook in the sense that you are building a lineup with a salary cap, similar to the traditional DFS structure, but instead of competing against thousands of other entries, you’re competing against the “book.” The book, in this case, is a pre-generated lineup that you need to beat. To get all of the ins and outs of StatHero and what they have to offer, check out Tyler Loechner’s app review right here on FTN and Chris Meaney’s video breakdown.

Stat Hero NBA Picks for Tonight

Here is a look at my favorite plays on StatHero for Friday’s slate.

StatHero MVP picks

Unsurprisingly, StatHero chose Russell Westbrook as their MVP as the most expensive player on the slate. While one strategy can be to simply match the StatHero lineup and differentiate elsewhere, especially given the floor/ceiling combination of Westbrook, there are a couple of other options that stick out.

Kevin Durant ($12,400) is likely the player I would look to immediately after Westbrook as my MVP. He played 36 minutes on Thursday and posted over 40 raw points with Kyrie Irving and James Harden out, and with the potential for them both to be sidelined again, we could see another vintage Durant performance for a discounted price.

Joel Embiid is the only other player I would feel semi-confident with in my MVP slot, but he faces a real concern regarding his minutes given the current 9.5-point spread of this game and the chance that the Hawks’ starters could be out. Nonetheless, he has one of the highest ceilings on the entire slate. If not going Westbrook or Durant at MVP, Embiid is my pick.

StatHero FLEX picks

With Giannis Antetokounmpo’s status in serious jeopardy for Friday, it makes sense that the StatHero lineup chose Jrue Holiday. While I like the idea of matching here, I prefer to leverage that and go with Khris Middleton, hoping for a ceiling game out of him, as it could come at the expense of Holiday’s production if Giannis is out. Having one of those two is going to be critical.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both make sense as flex plays here as well, as they both carry usage rates over 30% with Kemba Walker out, who is slated to miss his third consecutive game on Friday. This could also be a chance to get Marcus Smart for a discounted price and heightened ceiling.

John Collins ($8,900) is a conditional play for me on StatHero. If Clint Capela is ruled out, it’s going to be incredibly hard to not lock him in for $8,900 given the uptick in not only minutes and usage rate, but rebounding rate with Capela off the floor and potentially Trae Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic out as well. If the guards end up sitting out, this could be a chance to save some salary and use Lou Williams for only $7,200, as he would command the lion’s share of usage in the backcourt.

StatHero Sleeper picks

StatHero selected Landry Shamet as their value option here, and given the fact that there’s still a shot that Kyrie Irving plays, I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to top their salary-saving options.

If looking at the same Nets team, Jeff Green stands out as a far stronger value option, as he’s played at least 30 minutes in four consecutive games and has topped 30 fantasy points in three of those four.

I also like the idea of getting one of Joe Ingles or Jordan Clarkson, who stand to benefit once again without Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell active, only this time in a much closer game which should lead to full workloads. If wanting to save even more salary and get different with your Jazz exposure, Georges Niang is the best bet. Having one of these beneficiaries when the StatHero lineup chose to forego all three could be a massive difference-maker in your results.
