2024 Team Stats

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 22. This comes a day after King was scratched from his start against the Atlanta Braves due to a shoulder issue. King is now being placed on the injured list due to right-shoulder inflammation. This is a shame, considering King was pitching well with a 2.59 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 64/17 K/BB across 10 starts this season. The expectation is that he'll only miss a few weeks, so fantasy managers should stash him on the injured list. In a corresponding move, right-hander David Morgan has been recalled from Triple-A. The expectation is that Stephen Kolek will remain in the starting rotation with King going down.

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) is slated to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Monday. Kim has been sidelined since last August after suffering a shoulder injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he will likely need several games during his assignment before he is cleared to report to Tampa Bay. The Rays signed Kim to a two-year contract worth $29 million during the offseason. Before his injury last summer, Kim appeared in 121 games for the San Diego Padres and held a .233/.330/.370 slash line with 11 long balls and 22 stolen bases. He provided strong value in points league due to his elite 16.4% K rate and 12.3% walk rate. When he returns to action, he should be the everyday shortstop in Tampa Bay and carry value in all standard formats.

San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Michael King (shoulder) has been scratched from his start on Saturday evening against the Atlanta Braves due to right shoulder stiffness. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the right-hander could be in danger of spending time on the injured list, given the severity of the injury. Instead, Sean Reynolds will get the starting nod this evening. Through his first 55 2/3 innings of work this season, King has posted a strong 2.59 ERA with a stellar 1.02 WHIP. Across this stretch, King has struck out 64 batters and served up just 17 free passes. Fantasy managers should expect Reynolds to serve as an opener in this contest, as he has never logged more than three innings in an appearance this season. He enters this game with a high 6.43 ERA and should not be targeted in any DFS competitions.

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado helped lead the team to a 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves on Friday with a huge home run in the ninth inning. Machado came up in a 1-1 tie and drove a Raisel Iglesias pitch 422 feet for what proved to be the game-winning shot. He added a single earlier in the night to finish 2-for-4. The home run snapped a 16-game drought for Machado, who has slumped over the past week. However, the 32-year-old has enjoyed yet another effective campaign overall thus far, having slashed .309/.376/.459 with four homers, 21 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 202 plate appearances. He'll face Braves righty Grant Holmes on Saturday.

Tampa Bay Rays middle infielder Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder), who took ground balls and threw to first base on Monday, is getting close to a return, according to Bally Sports' Ryan Bass. Kim is scheduled to take batting practice and do more infield work and could take live at-bats and be sent to the rookie-level Florida Complex League by the end of the week. "We look at this as being a big week," manager Kevin Cash said. The 29-year-old could start an official minor-league rehab assignment by next week, depending on how this week goes. He's currently on the 60-day injured list after having surgery for a right-shoulder injury that cut his 2024 season short with the Padres. When he does finally make his debut for the Rays, Kim is expected to become the team's primary shortstop and will offer some speed and positional versatility for those in deep-mixed fantasy managers in the middle infield.
