We’re less than a week from MLB Opening Day, and the smell of baseball is strong!

With Prediction Strike, we can buy and sell players stocks much like the actual stock market, and in doing so we are able to create portfolios. However, unlike DFS or sports betting, these can also be long-term investments.

Considering that long-term angle, we can take advantage of some of the things unique to baseball, such as players changing teams at an incredibly high rate over the offseason and hundreds of exciting prospects, some of whom may even make big impacts in the MLB this season. But with the increased size of MLB rosters and players who receive regular playing time, we get increased opportunities to find some overlooked diamonds in the rough.

Here are a couple of names to consider over at Prediction Strike.

Prediction Strike Pick: Miguel Vargas

Miguel Vargas will be a name the baseball world will learn quickly. Vargas was one of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top prospects and will be firmly entrenched into their everyday lineup as the starting second baseman. His $0.86 price on Prediction Strike has increased by less than 5% over the past month, and once the regular season gets going, that price should skyrocket. Vargas slashed .304/.404/.511 in Triple-A last season, drove in 100 runs, hit 17 dingers and swiped 16 bags. He’s an across-the-board contributor with an above-average batting eye and strong plate discipline (a 0.93 BB/K last season). Vargas is slated to hit in the bottom-third of the Dodgers’ lineup to start the season but could easily move up into the top half if he produces as expected. Now is the time to strike on Miguel Vargas.

Prediction Strike Pick: Reid Detmers

Reid Detmers was the Los Angeles Angels’ top pitching prospect heading into the 2022 season and produced stoutly as a rookie in 25 starts: a 3.77 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 122 strikeouts in 129 innings. If you recall, he threw a no-hitter in his sixth career start and also punched out 12 Rangers in a late-July outing. All in all, a splendid major league debut. Detmers is a lefty with plus velocity who has had a tremendous spring. In a spring training game on Wednesday, Detmers was touching 89-90 mph with his slider – a pitch he averaged 86 mph on last season. The Prediction Strike market has not moved at all on Detmers over the past month, sitting at a mere $3.13 tag – a price that rise before Opening Day and continue to soar as the season goes. Detmers is a future All-Star who will build on his rookie season success and produce profits for all who invest in him.
