William Contreras Not in Wednesday's Lineup

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras will not be in the lineup for Wednesday's home matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. It's a routine day off for him, and it will be the fourth such this season. Eric Haase will catch, with outfielder Christian Yelich bumping up a slot in the order to bat third. Contreras has been fine thus far in 2025, although he has lost some of the quality of contact gains he exhibited in 2024. Particularly, seeing stark drops in his average exit velocity (89.9 MPH) and hard-hit rate (41.4%). Digging deeper, he's been dreadful against left-handed pitching, too, batting .143 (7-for-49), which is typically a strong aspect of his game. He's been better recently, with three multi-hit efforts in his last six appearances.

William Contreras Powers Brewers Past Orioles

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras was a perfect 4-for-4 in Monday's 5-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He singled and doubled twice, while driving in two runs, drawing a walk, and stealing a base -- his fifth of the season. The 27-year-old did not cross the plate himself, but his last hit was critical in Milwaukee's victory. Contreras came up to bat after teammate Brice Turang walked himself to first and delivered a clutch single off Yennier Cano to drive him home and score the go-ahead run. His other RBI also involved Turang, who scored courtesy of a double in the bottom of the fifth. The right-handed backstop hasn't been as effective as he was in 2024, particularly in terms of quality of contact. However, it's worth noting he's been playing with a fractured middle finger on his left hand.

William Contreras Expected To Return On Friday

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that he fully expects catcher William Contreras (finger) to return to the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. A recent X-ray revealed that Contreras has been playing through an old fracture in the middle finger of his left hand. The 27-year-old All-Star backstop took the day off in Wednesday's loss to the Houston Astros, but he plans to play through the injury and will be active again on Friday after a travel day on Thursday. It's good news for fantasy managers that the Venezuelan catcher won't miss extended time with the injury, but it also means that Contreras might not be ready to return to his All-Star form from a year ago at the plate. Through 35 contests in 2025, he's hitting a disappointing .242 (30-for-124) with three homers, 19 RBI and four steals in 148 trips to the plate.
