Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (head) cleared the league's concussion protocols and is doing OK after being removed from Monday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians following a collision in the outfield with third baseman Rafael Devers. O'Neill is out of the lineup on Tuesday and will also sit on Wednesday, but manager Alex Cora said he's planning to have O'Neill back in action on Thursday for the series finale against Cleveland. The 28-year-old required eight stitches to close a cut on his head above his left eye, but it appears he won't need to go on the seven-day concussion injured list and should return for fantasy managers later this week. O'Neill has enjoyed his time in Beantown so far, going 15-for-48 (.313) in the early going with seven homers, eight RBI, a steal and 14 runs scored.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (head) is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Cleveland Guardians after colliding with third baseman Rafael Devers in the outfield on Monday and being pulled from the game. The 28-year-old walked off the field under his own power and had a cut on his head, and he is now in the league's concussion protocol after needing eight stitches. It remains to be seen if O'Neill is actually dealing with a concussion, but he'll miss at least one game this week after the collision. The Red Sox and fantasy managers would hate to see O'Neill, who is hitting .313 (15-for-48) and already has seven home runs on the year, land on the seven-day concussion injured list. Jarren Duran is in left field for Boston on Tuesday and is hitting leadoff, while Wilyer Abreu is in right field and hitting fifth against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee.UPDATE: Manager Alex Cora said O'Neill cleared the concussion protocol and is doing better. He'll sit out Tuesday and Wednesday, but the hope is he'll be back in the lineup on Thursday.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (head) exited Monday's game against the Cleveland Guardians in the seventh inning after a collision. With the Red Sox trailing 2-0 at the time, O'Neill, third baseman Rafael Devers, and shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela all tried to make a play on a popup hit by Guardians' outfielder Estevan Florial in shallow left field. Devers made the catch but collided with O'Neill in the process. The outfielder eventually walked off the field under his own power and left the game. The 28-year-old appeared to have a cut on his head and will likely go into the league's concussion protocol. Either way, though, it was a good sign to see him walk off under his own power. He is off to a blazing start in 2024, hitting .313 with seven home runs and eight RBI, and he should be rostered in every fantasy league moving forward.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Sunday's 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels. O'Neill has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball to kick off the 2024 season. The 28-year-old is now slashing .304/.448/.761 with seven home runs, nine RBI and one stolen base. Injuries have always been a concern for O'Neill, but he has had a clean bill of health so far in Boston. He looks like he may be on his way to a career year for fantasy managers.
Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill will be on the bench in the second game of the three-game set against the Los Angeles Angels. O'Neill has been one of the best hitters of the season so far, posting an excellent .279/.426/.698, and is tied at the top in home run leaders with six. As a result, Wilyer Abreu will be batting in the two-hole and playing in right field. Abreu is off to a slow start to begin the season with a .190 AVG and just one extra-base hit. However, Abreu is a sneaky play in DFS as he should see plenty of at-bats and has a great matchup against Griffin Canning, who comes into today's game with a hefty 8.38 ERA.
