According to the team, the Chicago White Sox have designated right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson for assignment. This transaction opened a roster spot for Brandon Eisert, who the team signed on Friday. Wilson logged 34 2/3 with the White Sox last summer and held a 5.71 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP. He generated a strong 31.0 percent hard-hit rate but a poor 26.0 percent ground-ball rate. Wilson also generated strikeouts at a low 20.9 percent rate. During the 2023 season, Wilson posted a 3.91 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP across 53 innings with the San Diego Padres. Across 88 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level, the 30-year-old has held a 3.97 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect Wilson to spend most of the 2025 season in the minor leagues.

The Chicago White Sox placed right-hander Steven Wilson (back) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 20) on Wednesday with a back strain and recalled right-hander Nick Nastrini from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. In his first year with the White Sox in 2024, Wilson has been a key contributor out of their bullpen, going 1-2 with a 2.84 ERA (6.25 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP with 14 walks and 19 strikeouts in 19 innings over 21 relief appearances. However, unless the 29-year-old is able to limit the free passes when he returns from his injury, he'll be hard-pressed to be as fortunate the rest of the season. Nastrini will make his return to the big leagues and will join Chicago's starting rotation on Wednesday to face the Toronto Blue Jays for only the third start of his young major-league career.

San Diego Padres right-handed reliever Steven Wilson is expected to go to the Chicago White Sox in the trade that sent starter Dylan Cease to the Padres on Wednesday, according to sources. In addition to Wilson, the Padres also sent pitching prospects Drew Thorpe and Jairo Iriarte and outfielder Samuel Zavala. Wilson, 29, has posted a decent 3.48 ERA (4.33 FIP), a 1.11 WHIP, one save, 47 walks and 110 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched in San Diego the last two years. Given the sad state of the White Sox's bullpen as they rebuild, Wilson should immediately enter the closing mix in the Windy City alongside names like John Brebbia, Deivi Garcia and Jordan Leasure. It will give him a little more fantasy appeal for those desperate for saves in deeper leagues.
