The St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Daniel Guerrero writes that St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy could come back up to the big leagues to make another spot start later this month. McGreevy came up to make his first start of the year on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers and took the loss after allowing four earned runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out five in six innings. All things considered, it wasn't a bad showing for the 24-year-old, who is considered the team's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline. The former 18th overall pick in 2021 out of Santa Barbara has held his own with a 3.09 ERA and 0.86 WHIP with 10 strikeouts in his two outings (11 2/3 innings) this year after making his MLB debut in 2024. McGreevy's stuff isn't anything special, but he's a ground-ball artist with exceptional control.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that they sent right-handed pitching prospect Michael McGreevy and right-hander Matt Svanson to Triple-A Memphis and recalled right-handers Riley O'Brien and Chris Roycroft from Memphis in corresponding moves. McGreevy, the club's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will head back to the minors for more seasoning after making a spot start in Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers in what was just his fourth MLB start after debuting last year. The 24-year-old took the loss against the defending World Series champions and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking none and striking out five in six innings of work. McGreevy has the makings of a solid big-league starter eventually and has held his own in his first six big-league outings (six starts), posting a 2.34 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 28 K's and only three walks in 34 2/3 frames.

McGreevy was given a spot start earlier this season and performed well, logging 5 2/3 shutout innings against the New York Mets. In this outing, he struck out five batters and allowed just one hit and one walk. Last summer, McGreevy made his MLB debut and found success as well, posting a 1.96 ERA and a stellar 0.78 WHIP across 23 frames. During this stint, he struck out 18 batters. Through 339 1/3 career innings at the Triple-A level, McGreevy has posted a 4.00 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. Even though he has found success in the big leagues, he is best to fade in DFS on Sunday while facing a potent Dodgers lineup.
