Los Angeles Angels outfielder Matthew Lugo was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. The move is in preparation for Mike Trout to return to the team on Friday. He showed some promise in his brief time in the majors, hitting three home runs in 15 games, but ultimately will head to the minors with a .231/.250/.564 slash line. The 24-year-old didn't have much fantasy relevance anyway, especially after Chris Taylor joined the team, which took any chance of regular playing time out of the equation.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Matthew Lugo has seen increased playing time over the last week or so. Lugo has started in each of the last three games and played in seven straight contests. Since being called up, Lugo is batting .381 with three homers and six RBI. He has collected five hits over the last three games, which includes a 2-for-5 performance with a solo homer on Saturday. He figures to continue seeing regular playing time until Mike Trout (knee) returns to the lineup. Lugo isn't a great fantasy option, but is worth a look in deep leagues or AL-only formats.

The Los Angeles Angels are promoting outfield prospect Matthew Lugo to the major leagues. In a corresponding move, the Angels have placed outfielder Gustavo Campero (ankle) on the 10-day injured list. Lugo was in contention to make the Opening Day roster but fell just short in the competition. However, the former second-round pick has earned an early promotion. Through the first 35 games of the Triple-A regular season, Lugo held a modest .212/.292/.364 slash line with nine doubles and four home runs. Last summer, Lugo was very productive across stints at Double-A and Triple-A. Across 79 cumulative games, the 24-year-old posted an impressive .287/.376/.578 slash line 21 doubles, 17 long balls, and 16 stolen bases. For the time being, fantasy managers should expect Lugo to have a depth role in the outfield, which should only make him worth rostering in AL-only formats.
